UPDATE: My thoughts On Dana White's Silence On The Brock Lesnar Situation

UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar

Dana White mentioned at the UFC 108 post fight press conference that we would find out what's up with Brock Lesnar some time this week.  However, when asked about it by MMAFighting, Dana White said "no comment" and pretty much said he should respect Lesnar's wish to keep things quiet:

"Brock asked me not to talk about it," he said. "I have to respect that."

We could all read into this statement and come up with our own conclusions.  This is what we do know though:

1.  Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin will take place in March at UFC 111 for the UFC Interim Heavyweight Title.

2.  An interim title probably means that Lesnar will not fight at all or at least not until the last quarter of 2010.

Now this is just my own conjecture, but Lesnar may not even visited the doctor's this week as Dana White claimed he would right after UFC 108.  So White not talking about the situation could mean that nothings changed because Lesnar hasn't been re-evaluated yet.  I would have to think that if Lesnar's career was over or if he were going to be out for an extended period of time, White probably would have at given a 'read between the line response".  I mean Lesnar asked him not to talk about his situation initially and that didn't stop White from giving out little nuggets here and there.  My guess is that Lesnar's condition is improving, but it could be progressing more slowly than he thought it would.  Yet, it's not to the point where he can provide an definitive time table on his return which is why he doesn't want to say anything at all just yet.  I suppose we'll just have to stay tuned.

[Note by Kelvin Hunt, 01/08/10 7:49 PM EST ]Lesnar will fight again according to University of Minnesota assistant head wrestling coach Marty Morgan:

"He will fight again. I know that it's just a matter of the public finding out when soon enough."

I hope he returns – for the sake of MMA as weird as that might sound.

Bloody hell.

My guess is that Lesnar’s condition is improving, but it could be progressing more slowly than he thought it would.

i wholly agree

however i believe that Dana’s silence is borne out of Lesnars wrath. let’s say the above statement is true, there is no onus on Lesnar to ever fight again, just like there was none on him to wrestle or play football again when the mood took him. Now he finds himself in a position where his health is in jeopardy and fighting again may make no sense when he isn’t exactly stuck for a buck. Instead of pissing him off even more by again breaking ranks, Dana is playing to his ace of hearts so that he doesn’t shoot the company in the foot and lose their numero uno PPV draw…

Dana needs Brock, more than Brock needs Dana any way you cut it. even accounting for the UFC being bigger than Brock, its still bigger and better with Brock. Keep him onside Dana

He’s probably out, but if Lesnar doesn’t want White talking about it, since the information hasn’t been leaked elsewhere, White can’t. HIPAA (health insurance portability and accountability act) prevents people from talking about medical conditions/history to anyone unauthorized, and since White is Lesnar’s employer if he goes and drops a bombshell about Lesnar having an alien egg inside of his intestine, White would be in BIG trouble.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think that overall it’s a really weird situation for White to be in, because he usually spouts off whatevers on his mind, and now he can’t legally (or morally, if Lesnar asked him to keep quiet) say anything about it.
