Welterweight Jay HieronTalks Joe Riggs Win And Wants Nick Diaz Next
From MMAWeekly:
The game plan was to try and go out and put pressure on him. Try to stay sharp because he’s a lefty. You can’t go after a lefty because everything is opposite, so I was a little more strategic," "I felt great in my performance." "I was trying to finish him, but I couldn’t. It was a great fight. I take my hat off to Joe," said the 33-year-old New Yorker.
"I think I match up great with Diaz. I think he has holes in his game, and I think I’m the man to exploit it," "It’s all timing. Hopefully we’ll sit down with Strikeforce and move forward in that direction, but right now I’m just going to enjoy this victory, get back home, heal up. Hopefully that’s next."
The Riggs fight was the last fight on Hieron's Strikeforce contract. It appears that he'll get the much wanted title shot against Nick Diaz if he re-signs with Strikeforce. Hieron feels as if he's gotten the short end of the stick since signing with Strikeforce. So it'll be interesting to see how he and his manager try to renegotiate his contract. If I were him, I'd have it in writing that my first fight would be a title fight. Then again, if he really believes he's one of the best in the world, he could always go back to the UFC shark tank of welterweights.

I read Sakurai is next for Diaz. Not immensely thrilled for either match-up.
"I don’t care, hit him with your groin!"

Sucks to be Hieron
Courtesy of MMA Junkie:
However, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker isn’t sure Hieron deserves the title shot, and Diaz said he’d rather fight big-name fighters – not “undercard fighters” such as Hieron.
And perhaps the biggest stumbling block of all? Hieron, who signed with Strikeforce in 2009 primarily because he was promised a title shot, has fulfilled the terms of the contract and now needs a new deal.
Forrest has been saying on the show that he’s got no sympathy for Hieron, because of his choice of management and the way he’s chosing fights. Signs to get a title shot and gets prelimed, gets offered a title shot and turns it down, only to be prelimed. And now that he’s been prelimed so much Strikeforce doesn’t think he’s a contender!

You can’t fault Hieron really for going with SF…it’s not like he’d ever be champion in the UFC…he’s probably getting paid close to the same amount as he would in the UFC..if he got the SF belt he could demand a little more money…it was a rational decision at the time…then again hindsight is always 20/20.
