UFC 113: Forrest Griffin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Verbally Agreed Upon

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champ Forrest Griffin

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champ Forrest Griffin

MMAJunkie reports:

A light-heavyweight match-up between former UFC lightweight champion Forrest Griffin (17-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and recent Brazilian import Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (18-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC), otherwise known as "Lil Nog," is in the works for the recently rescheduled UFC 113 event in Montreal.

The fight was first reported Tuesday by Tatame.com and subsequently confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) by sources close to the situation.

Both fighters are coming off big wins at UFC 106.  Antonio Rogerio Nogueira made his UFC debut a successful one as he knocked out rising contender Luiz Cane in the first round.  Forrest Griffin put a highlight reel KO loss against Anderson Silva behind, him to win a split decision and avenge an earlier loss to Tito Ortiz.  This is a great fight between two highly ranked light heavyweights.  A win for Nogueira puts him in the title picture, while a win for Griffin helps re-establish some of the luster he lost in the loss to Silva.  The rumored fight card can be found after the jump.

Star-divide

-Shogun Rua vs. Lyoto Machida(UFC Light Heavyweight Title)

-Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Forrest Griffin

-Josh Koscheck vs. Paul Daley

-Patrick Cote vs. Alan Belcher

-Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Matrione

-Jeremy Stephens vs. Sam Stout

-Marcus Davis vs. Jonathan Goulet

-TJ Grant vs. Johny Hendricks

I just got this feeling that Forrest might win… dunno, might be every hardcore + their mother predicting Lil Nog.

either way, this should be a really exciting match up. Noguiera will more than likely have Anderson Silva helping him train and probably act as a corner man.

Another exciting card, I’m looking forward to Cote vs. Belcher, Daley vs. Koscheck-1, Stout vs. Stephens should be FIRE, I’m not sure if Matrione is confirmed.

-1 I really think Koscheck will be able to take Daley down.

yeah yeah yeah . . .

Oh yeah, if Koscheck decides to stand for a while, he better bring something better than that overhand swinging right.

yeah yeah yeah . . .

yea

UFC 110 starts it all…then 111, 112, 113, and 114 are RIDICULOUS on paper IMO.

I’m sure there will be some forthcoming complaints about too many cards. Just keep coming with the action, hopefully we’re behind that injury plague from the 4th quarter of last year.

yeah yeah yeah . . .

man

I’ll never complain with cards like these coming up…

In all fairness

we have to complain about SOMETHING, even if it’s too much of a good thing.

agreed…the past couple have been mediocre IMO but UFC events still have a leg up on any other promotion

you can't have enough mma coming up for me. now that college football is over i want.....

to see it every weekend. i think forest is in deep trouble. just that one fight with cane made a believer in me. plus i like the way lil nog strikes. lil nog with early second round ko. i think josh koscheck shuts up daley like he did to anthony johnson. kos must have alot of confidence after beating a.j. daley has been talking alot of zhit. j.k will shut him up. the rest, i got my man belcher beating cote who has not fought in awhile. i’ll predict a bigger slam and tko for slice over matrione. i also take hendricks over grant. i’ll also take goulet over davis b/c he has (davis) has lost in a row and i think he has taken too many shots to the head and his time has passed. he is 6 years older. stout vs stephens and machida vs rua i will decide when the moneylines come out. i want to see if one of them will be a big dog.

i'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. i was building a house, i don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. bang. "unforgiven"

should say davis has lost two in a row.

i do and i hope the handicappers see it your way too.

kimbo is going to go on to bigger fights. bank on it.

Ehhh, if by bigger fights you mean getting spoon-fed under-sized or over-the-hill or green mofos who are stylistically good match-ups for him…

"I don’t care, hit him with your groin!"

by 3PA on Jan 26, 2010 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

absolutely

anything to keep him winning and the ufc happy with the numbers kimbo can pull. i’ll bet ufc 113 will sell alot of ppv’s because of him. i won’t even go into how i think kimbo slice is the best hustler in mma history. i have done that already here and on mma mania, and bloddy elbow. i usually sway most with it. they give him that respect. why do you dislike him so much? he is getting a little better at each event. i expect him to be even better vs matrione if it happens.

Wow, I personally don’t think Kimbo has the gas to really do anything effective. Instead of hanging out at the AVN awards he should just train-train-train . . . he’s not a young cat. I think Herschel Walker at 47 can beat Kimbo. And I haven’t even seen Walker fight.

yeah yeah yeah . . .

by VeeisAnimated on Jan 26, 2010 7:53 PM EST up reply actions

he is not fighting herschel walker. he is supposedly fighting matt matrione

i will bet on him like i did when he fought alexander and was a dog. hopefully he is a dog here. they could feed him half the hw cast of tuf 10 and he would beat them. that is not saying much but it keeps him fighting. it will make the ufc happy, the public happy and me happy.

Forrest better put his running shoes on.

by brad23 on Jan 26, 2010 6:16 PM EST reply actions

Ok, Forrest has already cried after a fight. He ran out of the arena.
There’s no way he’s going to have a huge emotional reaction to another loss at this point in his career.

yeah yeah yeah . . .

by VeeisAnimated on Jan 26, 2010 7:55 PM EST up reply actions

Uh...

That loss wasn’t even six months ago. He was all smiles after UD’ng Tito, but after he gets whupped by Rogerio, that’ll put him at 1-3 in his last four.

Whoops

My mistake.

Alls I’m saying is that a guy doesn’t go from running away from the ring crying to walking away with his head held high in that short of time.

I thought that Forrest won the first fight and I thought Tito won the 2nd fight.

I thought so too

But at the end of the day they’re still 1-1, whether we’re right, or the judges were right ;)
