Takanori Gomi could make his UFC debut against unsuccessful lightweight challenger Kenny Florian at UFC Fight Night 22, Fighters Only was told this week. The event takes place in North Carolina on March 31st.

Kinda cruel to stick Gomi in there with the top contenders from the get go. I’d prefer to see him get a middle of the road opponent first just to let him get a little cage warm up. It has been a long while since Gomi has had a cage fight and i’d hate to see a possibly excellent fight like this ruined due to one fighter not being comfortable in the cage. This is akin to them throwing Sexyama in with Marquardt instead of Belcher for his debut, not smart match making.

on the flipside..the guy is a veteran…and they need a contender for BJ Penn…they don’t have time to give Gomi gimmie fights…if Gomi can’t get past Florian…well…that tells them all they need to know about him…not to mention they are probably paying him some coin…

Gomi isnt currently at his best
But IMO Florian is. I got Florian if it happens.
