Does Gray Maynard Deserve The Title Shot With A Win Over Nate Diaz At UFN 20?

Steve Cofield talks to lightweight contender Frankie Edgar about the possibility of leapfrogging Maynard for a possible title shot against BJ Penn later this year in the video above.  Personally, I don't see how that happens if Gray Maynard beats Nate Diaz tonight considering Maynard is undefeated and has already soundly defeated Edgar less than a year ago.  This isn't another case where one fighter is way more popular than the other ala Faber/Brown in the WEC.  Neither fighter is really THAT well known, Edgar has an advantage in the northeast but it's not a huge following per se in regards to turning into PPV buys.  Maynard got more exposure on TUF and has actually fought in an main event against the popular Roger Huerta.  What say you?

gray dominated frankie. frankie is very good, but is only in the conversation b/c of his win over sherk, who is on the downside of his career imo.

Yup. I think he does. Too mad he’ll get destroyed by BJ but he does deserve a shot at the belt.

of course. If anything, Maynard will put on a much better show. Maynard’s standup is pretty decent as well. Dude’s a beast.

If Maynard doesn’t get the title shot, it’s straight highway robbery. I understand why the brass would try and get Edgar into the mix instead, but to deny a guy a title shot after so many wins is just wrong.

yep

i stole this, but this statement made the most sense to me. Has frankie edgar ever beaten someone as good as frankie edgar? nope, but gray has. :)

HA!

That’s a pretty fantastic comparison!

i agree i think maynard should fight penn after he wins

i expect maynard to dominate this fight with diaz. he is stronger and i don’t see much difference in speed. he also has control of his emotions while diaz does not. i’ll take the stronger and more in control maynard over diaz.

i'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. i was building a house, i don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. bang. "unforgiven"
