Report: Gegard Mousasi Out Of DREAM 11 Super Hulk Tournament
From MMAWeekly:
Gegard Mousasi has been forced to withdraw from a scheduled bout with Rameau Thierry Sokodjou in the semifinals of the Super Hulk Tournament at Dream 11, MMAWeekly.com has been told by multiple sources close to the situation. The Japanese promotion is currently trying to find a replacement opponent for the Oct. 6 event, which also features the promotion’s Featherweight Grand Prix Finals.
The piece goes on to say that the injury possibly occurred during Mousasi's exhibition grappling match with Fedor Emelianenko at the M-1 Global: "Breakthrough" event. Mousasi was scheduled to face PRIDE and UFC veteran Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
I don't wish injuries on anyone, but this probably couldn't have happened at a better time. The Sokoudjou fight was a lose/lose scenario for Mousasi in my opinion.

Kind of sucks he got hurt, but he didnt need to be in that freak show shit anyway. He’s too good for that crap.
...some call me "el mexicutioner"...

Another reason why the UFC limits activities like sambo/grappling tournaments if you have a fight coming up.

Training for a fight can be more dangerous than a sambo or exhibition match. Seriously…that’s why I never understood the sambo opposing.

Heard a rumor it might not be due to injury. However, like Felix said this so-called tournament is SO inconsequential. Retarded brackets with retarded competitors. If it didn’t conclude, I really wouldn’t be upset at all.

Yea
I heard that too Neil in regards to the ‘injury’…I think his camp just realized it would be pretty dumb to take this fight with Soko after destroying Babalu like that…I could be wrong though.

Maybe, maybe not. I don’t think he’s got a lot to worry about with Sokodjou. Mousasi can probably take him out standing, and certainly on the ground.

Yeah, I was surprised that he was basically paid with a jar of pennies for his fight against Babalu.
Bloody hell.

He got paid more than what was reported I’m sure.

I’m sure that M-1 hooked him up with some more cash (as they do), but it’s still a pittance compared to the quarter mill that the UFC was going to shell out.

Anything called the “Super Hulk Tournament” will struggle to be taken seriously by a large audience.
unless
the audience is Japanese…which is why I really dislike MMA over there.

Normally I’d agree, because they seem to love this sort of stuff… but given that Dream put on the opening bouts of the tournament BEFORE they did the introduction ceremony is rather telling of what they think of it.

but still
obviously somebody over there wants to see it…or they wouldn’t have put it on..
