Josh Koscheck over Hughes?
Hughes beat GSP once. Not too many guys can say that see: Fitch, Alves or Koscheck. Alves did defeat Hughes, who suffered an leg injury in the match against an opponent who did not make weight. I’ll admit, I don’t think the weight factor made a huge difference.
Koscheck beat by GSP, Alves and newcomer Paulo Thiago. Does his victory over Trigg (a man Hughes beat twice), and KO victory over Yoshida really makes him look good in your rankings?
Swick . . . you do realize that his last two fights were his best performances post-Yushin Okami. I find it interesting that you have him ranked higher than experienced fighters like Condit, Daley AND Kampmann – despite his recent loss.
The hype surrounding the AKA tri-fecta is a little bit much. Koscheck and Swick benefits the most from being participants of TUF – not winners I might add. Jon Fitch is the only welterweight of the three who really deserves the rankings because he sports an incredible 10 – 1 record in the UFC and an incredible record outside the UFC. His losses were against fighters in a heavier weight class and the current MW champion.
I’m just saying, but alas it is your ranking.

I kind of agree – Koscheck has done nothing to earn that #5 spot IMO.
Bloody hell.

haha
I don’t see how yall don’t agree with Koscheck being top 5 though…the Paulo Thiago loss was a fluke…and he went the distance with GSP….lost to Alves on two weeks notice
Alves beat Parisyan(he was ranked at the time) and Hughes(who had only lost to GSP and still highly ranked)…

He lost to Paulo Thiago because he kept loading up for those Punchout-styled star punches – there’s nothing that leads me to believe that’s changed. Paulo Thiago validated himself with a gritty performance against Fitch and it was mentioned even before the Koscheck fight that he had an iron chin as well as some boxing experience – call his win a fluke, but I think it sounds like the perfect guy to take out a wrestler-turned-powerpuncher. Could Koscheck have won using his wrestling skills? No doubt, but that was the case with Kampmann in his last outing too.
Of course Koscheck is going to be at least somewhat competive against GSP – they stack up that way stylistically, I think a rematch would look more like Fitch/GSP than Koscheck/GSP 1. His true test of fire was against Thiago Alves and he got manhandled – I know he took that fight on short notice but so did Thiago Alves and both were preparing for fights.
Bloody hell.

yea
I look at it like this…the guys I have at 6-10…I think Koscheck beats the majority of the time.

I don’t see Koscheck beating Swick, Hughes, Daley or Kampmann. Maybe Condit but as we can all see he is seriously durable even when he gets rocked.

3PA, agree.
Kelvin, Fitch and Alves also went the distance against GSP. So did BJ Penn but that was a little while back.

But
Fitch and Alves got heavily damaged….whereas Koscheck moreso got outpointed if I recall correctly…however, it was a 3 round fight.

Ditto,
What makes rankings fun is NOT doing your own, but nit-picking some rankings created by other people.

I still say Shields doesn’t belong in the top 5 simply because he doesn’t fight top tier competition. Everyone else on the list, with the exception of daley, is consistently fighting other top 10 opponents.

Sighs
Shields hasn’t lost since 2005…and all of the following have been victims since then…
Carlos Condit, Yushin Okami, Renato Verrisimo, Mike Pyle, Nick Thompson, Paul Daley, Robbie Lawler…umm..I would say that’s pretty impressive…not to mention he finished 5 of them.
