Dana White Thinks Strikeforce Signing Of Herschel Walker Is Disrespectful To The Sport

Dana white voiced his displeasure about Strikeforce and Showtime's decision to sign the 47 year old former NFL player on the Mike Chiapetta's Inside The Ultimate Fighter Podcast.  Here's what White had to say:

"I think it's ridiculous, People think we're anti-competition? We're anti-dumb competition. Doing stupid things like this, putting a 50-year-old guy in the Octagon for the first time, and then going out there putting out press releases like it's a big deal because you signed a 50-year-old Herschel Walker? Are you serious?"

Dana White seems to think that Showtime is heavily influencing Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker to make bad decisions.  He questions if there is an athletic commission that will sanction a Herschel Walker fight:

"Which athletic commission is going to let this guy fight? Who the f*ck are they going to find to fight Herschel Walker? A guy in a wheelchair?"

I think they'll be able to sanction a Herschel Walker fight considering his taekwondo background.  However, I have to agree with White in that this comes off as a publicity stunt and I'm sure they could have found someone else with more credibility to add to their bare heavyweight division.

Dana, though he is abrasive to a fault, is speaking the TROOF.

Bloody hell.

Agreed, it’s a stunt.

Strikeforce is quickly turning into a sideshow farce and it can only hurt the sport as a whole. I understand why White would be upset, he works for years to get the sport sanctioned and seen as credible only to have some jackass come along and sink all of his work with stupid stunts and freakshows like this garbage.

I’m not DW hater but DW did not create the rules for MMA, that was the NJSAC A lot of fans was to praise DW for this but in reality he just used the rules that the NJSAC created. I like DW and think he has done a great job, I just think he gets pissed off when sees guys like Kimbo and Brock in other orgs making noise and wants the noise to be on him and the UFC

Herschel is physically fit. I could see maybe one fight out of him. Dana is so funny-“wheelchair”. Oh the mental picture. …. Hopefully Herschel doesn’t get hurt. He was good on the Apprentice!

I’m with all of you. This does seem kind of pointless. Having said that, just last night I saw a fight between Wes Shivers and James McSweeny on national television. In light of that I guess Herschel can give it a go.
