UFC Lightweight Division: Let's Play Match-Maker

Last week we witnessed two Xtreme Couture lightweights win their respective UFC fights in Gray Maynard and Tyson Griffin.  They took out Roger Huerta and Hermes Franca respectively.  We have Diego Sanchez fighting BJ Pennlater this year at UFC 107 and Kenny Florian taking on Clay Guida at the same event.  Jim Miller just won his lightweight fight at UFC 103, and Frankie Edgar will be taking on Kurt Pellegrino at the TUF 10 Finale.  Also, Josh Neer will be taking on Gleison Tibau, and  Spencer Fisher will be taking on Joe Stevenson at UFC 104.  There's no definitive challenger to the winner of the BJ Penn/Diego Sanchez matchup.  So I thought it would be fun to play match maker on possible scenarios that could come about in the UFC lightweight division.  You can find a list of fighters that are available(no fights scheduled) after the jump to work your magic.

Star-divide

-Gray Maynard

-Tyson Griffin

-Jim Miller

-Sean Sherk(when he comes back from his injury)

-Nate Diaz

-Hermes Franca?(if he's not cut)

-Jeremy Stephens

-Raphael dos Anjos

-Joe Lauzon(when he comes back from the knee injury)

-Sam Stout

-Efrain Escudero

-Melvin Guillard

That's just about all the notable lightweights that I can think of.  If I forgot someone, just list them in the comments section.  Aight, let's see what yall can come up with to help sort out this division.

I feel I’d be a decent matchmaker – maybe I could apply as Joe Silva’s trainee if this law school thing doesn’t pan out.

Bloody hell.

Here's mine

-Maynard/Griffin
-Guillard/Lauzon
-Miller/dos Anjos
-Diaz/Stout
-Franca/Stephens

Which leaves Escudero/Sherk…but I don’t know if they would want to push Efrain that fast..

Because Stout has good stand up…and will not shoot for a take down like Guillard…

Yeah, he’s young as hell and a fight with Sherk doesn’t make sense right now.

Bloody hell.

before UFC 103 you didn’t like Maynard/Griffin. Griffin must have impressed you!

Yeah Dos Anjos/Escudero might be more sensible… it would be a hell of a match methinks.

Where do you have the loser of Penn/Sanchez in that?

Bloody hell.

by 3PA on Sep 22, 2009 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions

loser of Penn Sanchez fights either loser of Maynard/Griffin or Winner of Gudia/Florian how about you?

by Erich Vowell on Sep 22, 2009 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree. I really can’t see the winner of Florian/Guida getting a titleshot right now so that would probably be the best scenario.

Bloody hell.

lol, I can’t stand Mac….I don’t know how he’s still employed with his last few performances

by Charles Walker on Sep 22, 2009 2:37 PM EDT reply actions

Mac’s in the twilight zone… they should probably send him over to WEC or just straight drop him (but I know they’re not to keen to do that with TUF winners)

Bloody hell.

Oh, and

Andy Wang for the immediate titleshot if he’s signed.

Bloody hell.
