Tim Sylvia Wants To Return To The UFC
The former UFC heavyweight champion spoke on his next fight with Adrenaline MMA on a recent edition of "Inside MMA". He mentioned that he wanted to return to the big show. When asked about if the big show meant returning to the UFC, Sylvia said "You know Dana's had some harsh things to say about me, but I've never said anything bad about him. When it comes to business, the best thing for Tim Syliva right now is to be in the UFC. They are the biggest organization, they have the most money, the best fights, and there would be some great fights if I was back in the UFC." Sylvia goes on to mention that he would like to have re-matches against Frank Mir, Randy Couture, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Of course he lost all of those fights and has since lost the two fights he has had since parting ways with the UFC. The last loss was an embarrasing ten second knockout against 48 year old former boxing champion Ray Mercer.
Here's what Tim Sylvia had to say right after parting ways with the UFC about a year and a half ago:
I'll be real active, fighting six or seven times a year," Sylvia said. "Adrenaline is a new company that's just starting up, but they're allowing fighters to fight outside of their organization. That's huge... Take for instance my last fight. Granted, I loss, but I came out of there unhurt and unscathed. I could have fought a week or two later.
"Being 32 years old, I have four or five good years ahead of me. I plan to make the most of it."
Well, I guess you could say that those goals just didn't come to fruition. Tim Sylvia was once thought to be one of the best heavyweights in the world and the guy is capable of beating some good fighters when he's there mentally and in shape. Would you want to see Tim Sylvia return to the UFC?

Velasquez and Dos Santos win. Cro Cop is questionable, and Sylvia might just beat Mir (if he’s in shape). And naturally, my boy Kongo would RUN TRAIN!

Yea
Tim could pop a little bit with his right hand and had good takedown defense but I swear that the heavyweight division during his time was straight garbage
Yea…plus the HW division has some legit wrestlers in it now…which would make his take down defense suspect than a mofo now…lol..

What’s up Kelvin.
I voted Yes. Why the hell not. I don’t have strong feelings either way really. Of course he’s not the most exciting guy or anything but if Hughes is still fighting, might as well let Tim back in. He might surprise some people once/if he recovers from his latest rough stretch.
Tito is back, Big John might ref for them again, Randy signed a long-term. Frank Shamrock anyone? Hah.

Sup son
Yea..I’ll be honest and voted yes…only because he would be a solid test for the up and comers in the UFC HW division…fighters like Todd Duffee, Velasquez, etc Sylvia was 300+lbs for his last fight…he was out of shape…etc…but he would have to make the 265lbs weight limit if he was in the UFC…which means he would at least have to be in decent shape…

I’ve said for a while that Tim is one of the best at HW, and quite frankly, he might still be. If you look at his record, the only losses he had before Mercer were to grade-A competition, and you could even make the argument that Mercer’s boxing background brought a little bit of power to blast Sylvia.
With that said, there’s zero reason to bring him back, and even if there was, it would set a bad precedent. The boy is 1-4 in his last five, and he hasn’t been active at all. If he were to get re-signed now, it would make the UFC look pretty dumb.
It’s a foregone conclusion that he’ll win the fight at the upcoming Adrenaline event, and all the better for him. If he can get three or four wins, preferably over competition that has more wins than losses, then he has a CHANCE ag getting re-signed. HOWEVER, there’s still another big thing working against him: he’s generally disliked by the fans, and (it seems) by the brass. They’re not going to go out of their way to sign a dude that people don’t like, and even if they want to Tim will need to lower his paycheck expectations in a BIG way. He’ll be lucky if coming back he gets 80/80, probably more like 40/40 or 50/50.

I wonder if Strikeforce would be interested in him?

Eeeeh… 1-4 kind of relegates you to the third tier. Wait for him to get a win over a scrub or two, and they might take a look at him.

Im kind of wondering how did Tim’s career get to this point? I can’t really blame him for leaving UFC to make good paydays, but his career has been completely mismanaged. I wonder Monte Cox responsible for this situation? Or is it Tim for not being realistic about what he is worth

Well
Considering that Tim left..or got cut from the UFC…however, you want to look at it..and thought it was the best move at the time because he thought he was going to fight 6-7 times a year…only to have fought twice in the past year and a half…???
As Rich said…I blame Tim and Cox…they just were not realistic.

Both Tim and Monte, really. Tim wants more money, Monte tells him he can make more money, so they leave and Tim’s gonna go on a reign of destruction and make kabillions of dollars. The only problem with the plan is that the plan only worked for one fight, and even then he only got the money part right.
