Shots Fired: Dana White Trashes Strikeforce And Says Fedor Emelianenko Will Put Them Out Of Business
"They have no money, no fighters. They're a small-town show," White said. "Cung Le hasn't defended the title since like 1997. Josh Thomson hasn't defended the belt in like two years. Who's their other champion? Alistair Overeem? He hasn't defended the belt in like two years. It's Strike-Farce. It's a little regional show with no one in it."
Ok, we knew this was going to happen sooner or later right?
Here's what he has to day about Fedor:
He'll put them out of business," he said. "They have no money and no distribution. You know how many people watch their fights? Their last fight [on Showtime cable], 245,000 people watched that fight. That's nothing."
Dear Scott Coker,
You probably do not want to respond with any negativity, in fact you probably shouldn't respond at all.

Well, it's officially war!
I’ve always wondered when the “nice-nice” would end between UFC and Strikeforce. I guess my question has been answered. Not that this is anything new for Dana, but it is a little telling, just how pissed off he is over the Fedor thing. He can trash Fedor all he wants but his actions say “We wanted him, now that you have him, you’re dead.”
Not that I’m saying he’s not right! I think this Fedor signing, after learning bits and pieces, after humiliating myself on B.E., due to a mis-read.. ahem… yeah, that was dumb of me, but in the process, I learned things like:
If fedor made $300K a fight, M1 was making somewhere in the neighborhood of $3,000,000, thus shattering my previously held notion of “Fedor not being top earner” in Affliction. If that’s not thuggish, taking more than the Lion’s share to a tune of something like 90%, then I don’t know what is. Don King isn’t even that bad, I don’t think. Makes me question just how much Fedor actually receives from M1, being that he’s a “part owner.”
I am still gonna watch him fight, but I’m not gonna order a PPV that Strikeforce puts on, most likely, because I think the showtime model is pushing it enough, when it comes to having to shell out $$$ to see THEIR fights. UFC is another story. I order about 1/3 of the events, when I was making more money, before I got downsized, I was ordering more like 90% of the PPV events from UFC. Back then, I never ordered the Strikeforce/Elite XC PPV, because… why shell out PPV money for a second-rate card?
If Strikeforce isn’t able to attract more top talent to balance their soon-to-be-bloated budget, then I agree with Dana, they are dead. With UFC’s clout, like you guys and lots of people at BE have been saying, they will be able to make business a living hell for Scott Coker – by stealing their talent and picking up up and comers with better offers than Strikeforce can afford.
In the end, this whole thing, whether it flops or not, will be good for the FIGHTERS – assuming that UFC gets aggressive like I expect, and starts shelling out bigger money – in turn forcing strikeforce to step up paydays as well…. while it lasts, the fighters at stake might get some nice deals.
