Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg MMA4Real Staff Predictions
We are rolling at half staff once again, but check out how Rich Wyatt and I see things going on Saturday night. Also, Matt Bishop will be bringing up LIVE coverage and commentary from the Strikeforce event on Saturday night. So make sure you join us here at MMA4Real for the open thread and discussion. Also, feel free to leave your predictions in the comments thread, and our thoughts are below:
Gina Carano vs. Cris "Cyborg"
Rich Wyatt-Carano over Santos by submission in the 2nd. Just remember Cyborg: DON'T TOUCH THE FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kelvin Hunt-I don't know about this one. Will Cyborg's aggression be a plus or a negative? My gut is saying that Cyborg will just be too strong for Carano in the beginning, but Carano will survive and finish Cyborg late in the 3rd round once Cyborg begins to gas.
Renato Sobral vs. Gegard Mousasi
Rich Wyatt-Sobral over Mousasi by submission in the 3rd. Babalu calls on all his big fight experience and grappling skills to pull off the upset.
Kelvin Hunt-I'm going with Mousasi via TKO in the 2nd round.
Gilbert Melendez vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
Rich Wyatt-Melendez over Ishida by TKO in the 4th. Melendez will work some effective ground and pound to avenge his earlier loss to Ishida.
Kelvin Hunt-I think this fight has decision written all over it. Melendez takes it.
Jay Hieron vs. Jesse Taylor
Rich Wyatt-Hieron over Taylor by decision.
Kelvin Hunt-I think Taylor has enough tools to make this fight interesting. I certainly can see him using his size/strength to grind out a decision against Hieron. In fact, I'm doing just that and picking the underdog.
Mike Kyle vs. Fabricio Werdum
Rich Wyatt-Werdum over Kyle by submission in the 1st
Kelvin Hunt-I think Werdum will be too much for Kyle even though he's been out of action for almost a year. Werdum via submission.

Babalu vs Gegard is the only fight on this card that i’m actually anticipating, the rest lack something that I just can’r put into words. I’d love to see Carano KOed but I don’t think it will happen.

I don’t really know how Jesse Taylor’s chin is, so it’s hard to say whether he can survive. Unless he gets dropped early, I see Taylor winning via decision.
I don’t really see why anybody thinks that Cyborg is going to win this fight. She’s known for gassing in every single fight that she doesn’t finish in the first round. People are just uber-impressed by her victory of Hitomi Akano for some reason and jumped right on the hype train as they always do. Plus with this fight being 5-5 rounds. I’m sure Gina will get tired after round 3 or 4, but that will be enough time for her to capitalize. I expect everybody to jump right off the Cyborg-wagon after tomorrow night.
Hopefully Werdum wins but I wouldn’t be shocked if Kyle somehow eye-gouged/flash KO’d his way to victory, and then pees on Fabricio during his celebration. How is this guy getting licensed still?
Melendez via TKO or decision.
And the fight that has me most excited now that Nick Diaz dropped out is Mousasi/Babalu. I don’t know if Gegard is that much better of a striker than Sobral that he will convincingly finish him, and he certainly isn’t any better on the ground. I figure Babalu takes this by decision.
