Comparing Boxing and MMA - Stop It!
Bernard Fernandez has a column up on Philadelphia Daily News with the title "Boxing should bow to UFC's Dana White". In his column he sites that the "UFC controls roughly 90 percent of the global market." There are a few interesting quotes from Dana White in response to Anderson Silva saying he will not fight his friend Lyoto Machida.
"To which White, standing a few feet away at the podium, responded, The fights that everybody wants to see, especially the super fights, I will make. Obviously, [Silva and Machida] are friends. But this has nothing to do with friendship. It's always about who's best. It's about competing against somebody else. I'll make that fight. I promise you, I'll make that fight."
Bernard Fernandez goes on to compare Dana White to King Richard in Robin Hood.
"My preferred analogy, maybe because I've always been fond of "The Adventures of Robin Hood," the great 1938 flick starring Errol Flynn, is that boxing has too many Prince Johns and no wise King Richard the Lionheart. England was a mess after Richard went off to fight the Crusades, but upon his return the men of Sherwood Forest stopped bucking the evil regime of Prince John and his minions, knelt in homage and pledged fealty to their true liege."
My Opinions after the Jump.
Now I don't live in Philly so guess how I found this story? One of the UFC's twitter accounts. It is obvious that Dana and co. want to shove this down our throats, that MMA is much better than boxing. Now I don't know about you guys but I am tried about the debate is Boxing better than MMA. I don't care frankly, I like both and I watch both. I have a problem with Mr. Fernandez saying that if White was to control boxing, White would wave his magic wand and fix everything. Mr. Fernandez also say that the "UFC controls roughly 90 percent of the global market." I'm not even going to touch that one, you all already know that simply is not the case. Dana has some very intrusting comments though about Silva fighting Machida. I would be so excited for that fight, the only issue is that how much will that effect the two men's training? Boxing has it's problems and MMA has it's problems can we leave it at that? The only thing I am remotely interested is seeing who gets more PPV's UFC 103 or Marquez vs Mayweather. So what do you think? Am I wrong about comparing two different sports, do you like the comparisons?

Good stuff
See…you are getting the hang of it…..you forgot to put the tags in again though…if you’ll edit this…and look for the auto tag button…you’ll see where I put the tags in….tags are basically who/what’s being talked about in the article..
I agree the sports are different with little cross over between the audience…I think Dana likes boxing…I doubt he could fix boxing because of all the politics and sanctioning bodies or whatever you call them…I’m pretty sure White is tired of defending MMA against boxing purist as well though…
My problem with boxing isn’t the sport itself…just that there is no promotional effort overall for the sport. I couldn’t tell you when the next ‘big fight’ is…the only reason I know when the Mayweather fight(that might not happen now) is…is because it’s on the same weekend as UFC 103 and everybody’s talking about who’s going to do more PPV buys…

Is it right now?
Boxing’s problem is lagre in number some of them are the 17 different weight classes, Boxing starts do not compete enough, Gambling and corruption, The fights that the public really want to see either never happen or we get them several years too late, Current boxing champions lack charismatic personalities, The best athletes no longer go into boxing because of the physical toll, and too many sanctioning bodies.

i’m probably fighting the night of mayweather/marquez and the same night’s UFC….sux. counter programming is like watching two guys fight over a chick in a bar…from a distance, it’s mildly amusing, but ultimately a waste of time.
