Mirko Cro Cop: Guess Who's Back (Perhaps)!

Heavyweight fighter Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic

Heavyweight fighter Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic

There could be a new turn in the case of the MMA fighter who is so wishy washy that he makes Brett Favre look decisive. Fiveouncesofpain.com is reporting that Mirko "CroCop" Filipovic might be returning to the UFC after all. According to the report: "It has been reported on the Croatian website Index.hr that UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta flew out to Croatia this morning on a private jet to have a two hour conversation with Filipovic on his own turf. The article goes on to state that both Mirko and Lorenzo were all smiles following the meeting and it is reported that Cro Cop was made an offer that would be difficult to refuse. DREAM has yet to announce a bout for Filipovic, and it now appears very likely that Mirko will pick up where he left off in the UFC."

So, if this turns out to be true, this whole CroCop saga will have come full circle. Any interest out there in how Mirko might play into the UFC heavyweight scene?

Hmm

I would like for him to fight in the UFC…I wonder what the ‘offer he couldn’t refuse’ consisted of though? From what CC said earlier…he just wanted to fight more often…so maybe that was it?

I would want to see him fight in the ufc too. How he will do..noone will no until he fights someone real.

With that being said, within the last year I’ve lost some respect for 2 of my favorite fighters: Mirko and BJ. Both pulled some stupid shit.

...some call me "el mexicutioner"...

Immediate title shot with a cut of the PPV? Not saying he deserves one at all, but just totally speculating here. Could be a PPV draw with the mainstream fans, plus Carwin, Velasquez, Couture and Norgueira are booked and probably wouldn’t be ready to fight again until early in 2010 (especially Carwin and Velasquez). Could we see Lesnar/Mir vs. CroCop in December? Just playing the what-if game.

Nah

I highly doubt him getting an immediate title shot….BUT I said the same thing about them putting Velasquez/Carwin agaisnt one another right now….so that proves what I know….lol.

I don’t think they’ll give him the shot either (nor do I think he deserves one). I do wonder what that “offer that would be difficult to refuse” thing is, though. (Assuming that this report by fiveouncesofpain.com is accurate) If this is legit I’m glad. I don’t know if he still has the goods at the world-class level anymore or not, but his involvement with the organization is still worth something because of his drawing power.

Well

It was reported by Fighters Only first I think…then 5ounces and everybody jumped on it…so there could be something to it…plus…the Dana White interview I posted earlier this week seemed to make me think Zuffa and Cro Cop were at least on talking terms…

I think we should concentrate on getting Cro Cop some prime match-ups before we decide about his status in title contention. I’d like to see him against another striker. Maybe put him against Hardonk or Pat Berry. If he can pull through that, then maybe a victory in a rematch over Kongo could put him back in the primary picture.

Very true. Lorenzo plays the role of the daddy fixing the messes created by the bald spoiled teenager.

I was pretty disappointed in his eye-poke win and then all the controversy about signing/not signing.
