Televisa To Air "UFC 100" Live In Mexico
posted by C. M. Holden
Merely a day after Ultimate Fighting Championship announced a television deal in China with Inner Mongolia Television, the premiere mixed martial arts organization continues to expand its international broadcasting horizons. Speaking to Mexico’s online news outlet El Universal, UFC President Dana White revealed that “UFC 100” is set to air live on the Mexican multimedia conglomerate Televisa, the largest television network in the Spanish-speaking world. White also stated the promotion’s intention to hold a live event in Mexico within the coming year.
Jaime Martinez of “The No Holds Barred Show” provided a translation of White’s comments from El Universal’s report.
"Of course, our prime objective is to bring a live UFC event to Mexico in the next year. We always knew that Mexico is a market we wanted to be in. UFC 100 is a great event with great fights, three of which will be featured on our live fight card. It’s a great opportunity to introduce the UFC to Mexico.
[Mexico] is just like the U.S. in that professional wrestling is very big; but we know that there are fans who love real fights. We know that we had to construct a solid foundation in the U.S. We are now the largest pay-per-view event in the world. We beat out boxing and the WWE. Now, Mexico is a priority for us."
The newest expansion into Latin America follows announcements of similar television and broadcasting agreements recently secured in Germany, Canada, Portugal, and China. The news of the new broadcasting partners helps to temper last week's loss of the international broadcaster Setanta Sports, which cited financial difficulties that forced them to cease broadcasting in Great Britain.
With U.K. fans at a loss, the UFC is now looking to for an arrangement to replace Setanta in the United Kingdom prior to “UFC 100”, according to UFC U.K. Division President Marshall Zelaznik.

I’m not sure about a live event because of the lack of disposable income, but the ratings on Mexican television might be nice once they establish the product there over the next couple of years. Great move by Zuffa to bring MMA to this audience and try to grow the product.
