The MMA4Real Share Something About Yourself Post

First of all, I'd like to thank all the MMA4Real regular visitors that come here on a daily basis.  Without you guys it would be pretty dead around here!  We've experienced a lot of growth over the past couple of months and quite a few new members have joined the community here.  So since we are trying to build a sense of community I thought it would be cool if we'd do a post in which each member(if you are willing) would share a little something about yourselves.  It doesn't have to be anything in great detail or personal if you don't want to go that route.  Just a little something something to get to know the man/woman behind the screen name.  A simple location, favorite fighter, and/or whatever else you would like to share is cool.  I'll even start it off...

Kelvin Hunt-I reside in Raleigh, NC, and my favorite fighters are Wanderlei Silva, Rampage Jackson, and George St. Pierre.  I'm married with a one year old daughter, played baseball in college(centerfield) and a short minor league stint before succumbing to injuries.  I've been a MMA fan for a long time...was never a huge fan of PRIDE, but I respect the epic fights they were able to put on at times.

The FanPosts are solely the subjective opinions of MMA4Real readers and do not necessarily reflect those of MMA4Real editors or staff.

Sounds like a good idea

My name’s Shaun, I’m a biomedical engineering student at the University of Houston, and I’ve played guitar for over ten years. I got into MMA after catching reruns of WEC fights late at night, and Carlos Condit became an early favorite of mine. I’ve been into the sport for about a year now (UFC 83 was the first PPV I watched), and I love to learn, mainly by scouring the internet and watching videos, either instructional, or the big, historic fights.

My name’s John (short for Johnathan which very few people call me to my face) and I’ve been an on and off fan of MMA since when being in possession of bootleg tapes of UFC events made you the coolest kid on the schoolyard – my main greivance was that MMA looked sloppy and ugly as hell in the beginning unlike many of the high-profile boxing matches at the time, but we’re getting to the point where mofos are ridiculously skilled. I’ve been training in the sweet science for the majority of my life and still do for fitness purposes (having some quick hands on ya never hurt either). I’m currently enrolled in Law school at Stockholm University (oh yeah, I’m Swedish if you didn’t know).

Bloody hell.

Name’s Charles, living in Greensboro, NC and currently married with a 3 year old daughter and a son due any day now. Played b-ball back in the day but now due to my laziness have become wack at it..lol. I used to watch the old UFC’s on the scrambled up PPV channel (we had a button you could press where it would come in clear but it would be in black and white) but then I stopped watching it for a minute, watched the Ultimate Fighter and became a casual fan then started back watching it (thanks to Kelvin). Favorite fighters are Rampage, GSP, and Anderson Silva (who I used to despise but now I’m a huge fan).

Nice guys.

My name’s Daniel. I’m study Comparative Religion at University at Albany, NY. My interests range from Buddhism to MMA to video games. I started watching MMA about 4 years ago; at first some friend showed me some videos, and then after a couple months I watched my first live event, which was UFC 51. I temporarily trained BJJ last year but had to stop (hopefully temporary) due to schedule constraints. I used to watch baseball as a Yankees fan but as this current season came about I had little to no interest considering all of the steroid allegations and other controversy surrounding the sport. I figured I’d just rather not get involved with a non-sense sport. Since MMA, I’ve become avidly interested in sport BJJ, Judo, K-1 and even boxing. My favorite MMA fight is Shogun vs. Rogerio; my favorite knockout is Kharitonov vs. Murilo Rua; my favorite submission is Hazelett’s armbar on McCrory, though my favorite submission technique is the anaconda choke. My favorite fighter of all time is Genki Sudo, and as far as active fighters go I’d have to say Anderson or Fedor are still my favorite since they’re awesome.

Genki Sudo was a cool fighter. My wife’s from Syracuse. How are you liking Albany?

by Rich Wyatt on Jul 29, 2009 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

The school is very big and very…concrete. But it’s educationally and socially sound; I have no complaints in that regards. Albany itself (I’m from somewhat nearby Saratoga Springs, which is more of a suburb) is a mess compared to the surrounding areas, so I don’t really spend much free time in the area if I don’t have to. All there is to do in Albany itself is get drunk at the numerous, shadily-located bars.

Whats up!!!

My name is Curtis and I am originally from Marion, NC. I a the co-owner of The Curtis and Kyle Show at www.curtisandkyle.com (looking for help if anyone’s interested). I am also a search and rescue swimmer in the Navy.

I love MMA. I write for a hand full of websites (www.mmaopinion.com) and love sharing my opinions about the sport. I am an avid UFC Hardcore type.

Matt Hughes is my fav, Kimbo is a bum, and Dana White is a genius (just rough around the edges)

I am going to make the trip to UFC 101 from Virginia Beach, Va and I can’t wait!

by NCSAR on Jul 29, 2009 8:32 PM EDT reply actions

A bit of a drive from VA (I’ve visited some buddies who were in the Navy and lived in Newport News) but I’m sure it will be worth it. Pretty much 2 main events on that card. Too bad this 5 round non-title fight thing isn’t up and running yet. Forrest vs. Anderson for 5 rounds would be nasty, although I speculate that the fight won’t go that long anyway.

by Ahhhoki on Jul 29, 2009 11:46 PM EDT up reply actions

What’s up, Curtis? Marion, huh? Shelby native here. What kind of help are you looking for for the show?

by Rich Wyatt on Jul 29, 2009 8:46 PM EDT reply actions

I’m a former investment banker now living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I’ve been out of work for almost two years now, and have no aspirations to return to the workforce. The benefit is that I have tons of time to spend obsessing over my favorite activity: fighting. I love both MMA and boxing, and believe that fans of each sport should stop bashing the others’.

I spend my weekdays training at a local boxing gym. Prior to boxing, I trained in Kajukenbo, one of the earliest forms of mixed martial arts.

Also, I love steak & Gina Carano.

I’m originally from the L.A. area but live in So. Florida now. I went to college for a couple years, was in the Navy for 4 years where I was a Fire Control Technician on the USS Minneapolis-St. Paul ( a Los Angeles class fast attack submarine), and I’m now an independent contractor/broker in the eBay business (yes, you can make good money doing this). From about ‘99 until about ’04 I was somewhat of a “nomad” – name the place I’ve probably been there or name an occupation, I’ve probably done it.
I have a 2 year old daughter and I live with her & her mother here in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I’ve been a fan of MMA since UFC 1, which I saw on an illegally copied VHS tape in ’93.

I’m Bryan, I’m 24 and live just north of Seattle, WA in a city called Bothell. I’m a Mechanical Engineer and when I’m not stuck running the rat race I golf and play xbox. I also play semi-professional kickball…okay semi-drunk kickball with some of my friends in a local league around here. I started watching MMA around UFC 3 when my friend gave me a DVD, I took some time off of it until around 02/03. I think the first event I watched after my MMA hiatus was UFC 37.5. My favorite fighters are K-Flo, the Miller Bros. and Thiago Silva.

Good call on...

Cole and Micah…I forget about Micah sometimes because he got lost in the WEC shuffle when all the international guys came over. Good fighter though.

Hi, my name is Sherry and I am an MMA Addict. =)
I am from Cape Cod Mass and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. I was married 13 years and now a widow. My new BF of 4 years is a BMX rider and a MMA fan as well. I now live a bit north of Tampa Fla. I watched Boxing as a child with my dad and as an adult, made an easy transition into love for MMA. I am a long time fan and attend as many events as I possibly can. The 100 Expo & fights were awesome. I am happy to be part of the MMA4Real Fantasy League at the Playground. I plan to be on SB Nation more. Nice to hear a bit about you all. Good idea. Go Florian. haha Oh, I am a self-employed Automotive Sales Trainer and Recruiter for the past 13 years.
