BREAKING NEWS: 'Trilogy' Cancelled

So says Sherdog.com, citing an SI.com report:

A week of misfortune turned to disaster for Affliction Entertainment on Friday, as the promotion canceled Affliction "Trilogy," which had been scheduled for Aug. 1 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

SI.com reported the news Friday morning, and Sherdog.com has confirmed it.

The cancellation -- which could spell the end of Affliction's year-long run as a mixed martial arts promotion -- comes on the heels of heavyweight Josh Barnett's failed drug test, which forced him out of the "Trilogy" main event againstFedor Emelianenko on Wednesday. Barnett, 32, tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid and was denied licensure by the California State Athletic Commission.

Join Matt Bishop and Forrest Lynn on Lights Out Radio at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT to discuss the cancellation.

I done called it!

I think about the only question left is whether or not this will be a delay like last time, or if it’s really canceled. I for one hope that it’s just a delay, but one would have to assume that it’s the sponsors pulling life support, after the Barnett debacle.

i think they might have pulled the plug, regardless of barnett. 1 man does not make an entire event (especially josh), and they could have found a replacement just as as popular as barnett, who is not all that well known outside the hardcore fans, and kept their fine undercard intact. monson wanted it and he’s a legit hw. fedor was the sell, not barnett. i think they were looking for a way out, josh just gift wrapped it for them. i am bummed though, i was looking forward to watching this event live on the net for free. :-)

You think Dana, knowing this would happen, paid Barnett a wicked amount of money to test positive? LOL

iv’e seen that graphic on BE. pretty funny. i also think its funny how many fans think dana is doing backflips and is jumping for joy. affliction was never a threat, just a nuaisance. i’m sure he smirked and said “i told you so”, but i doubt if he ever lost any sleep over them. he was just pissed at them for their betrayal (going after randy and poaching other ufc fighters) and you know how dana holds a grudge. :-)
