Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez at UFC 104
According to FiveOuncesofPain:
FiveOuncesOfPain.com have learned from sources close to the fight that Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez will face off for the #1 contenders spot in the UFC’s heavyweight division at UFC 104.
UFC 104 is set for Los Angeles, California on October 24.
Carwin will be making his return after he suffered a severely damaged nose in his knockout destruction of Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 96 in March. He has strung together a perfect record of 11-0 during his fighting career, with all three of his wins in the octagon coming by way of knockout or TKO.
Velasquez will be coming off of the biggest win in his young career as he recently defeated the highly ranked Cheick Kongo by unanimous decision at UFC 99.Velasquez has put together a perfect record of 3-0 with the UFC, with a career record of 6-0.
The winner of the bout between the two is expected to face off with the winner of and Frank Mir II at an event yet to be determined.
Well I guess the UFC wants to have one take a huge leap and the other take a huge drop. Should be a good one nonetheless. Who do you think takes it?

I don’t see Velasquez pulling this one off.

Too soon… awesome fight nonetheless.
Velasquez is the better wrestler IMO, but if takes shots to the head like he did against Kongo it’s night-night against someone with the power of Carwin.
Bloody hell.

Too soon
Yep…I would love to see their reasoning for this one…I just don’t see why they are basically using one up and comer to eliminate another one at this point. Unless they believe Velasquez is the superior fighter…because he’s a lot younger than Carwin…other than that…this makes me scratch my head.

At Carwin’s age I guess they thought it was now or never. And Cain is so young and inexperienced that he could bounce back fine from a loss. Having said that, give me Velasquez in this one.

He’s a workhorse that’s for sure. This fight will be awesome! Pulling for Cain here but I think Carwin will pull it off. Still, if Cain improves his head movement and boxing then Carwin my be in for a surprise.
Cains Wrestling > Carwins Wrestling
Based on the fact that Cain actually uses it (in a very dominating fashion I might add) in his fights. Another factor in Cains favor might be Carwins ringrust. Carwins last fight was in early March while Cain’s fought twice already. So pumped for this fight already! If Shogun and Cain both win that night my head will explode with hapiness!!! :P

We just know alot more about Velasquez at this point…I mean Carwin has power and has a wrestling background..Gonzaga rocked him so it’s not like he has the strongest chin in the world…since people are mentioning Velasquez getting rocked by Kongo…the thing is both showed the ability to recoup and come back…what happens if Carwin goes past 2 mins?
