Don Frye vs. Bobby Lashey 8/29 for M1?

Promoted To Front Page from Fanposts Section By Kelvin Hunt

Today on Fight Network Radio, Mauro Ranallo interviewed Don Frye, who says he's in negotiations to fight Bobby Lashey August 29th for M1 Global!

I'm a big fan of Fight Network Radio (airs Monday through Friday on Hardcore Sports Radio), and the second half of today's segment gave up quite a gem!  When Ranallo asked Frye what was on the horizon, he revealed that he was in negotiations to fight up and comer Bobby Lashley in late August for M1 Global.  Of course, this is a pretty early report, and fights of this ilk sometime go the way of the dodo, but it could be an interesting fight.

Thoughts on this yall?

In the post from yesterday about who lashley should fight next, we got some responses….Ben Rothwell, Dave Herman, and TUF 10 cast offs were mentioned…what do yall think about Don Frye?

Personally…I think he brings more to the table than Bob Sapp…that’s for sure…but he’s old to death…but he does pose a threat with experience and just sheer toughness I suppose…

Thanks for posting this Neil…

Don Frye is not half-bad…. Lashley will run through him though – he needs a well-rounded relevant MMA fighter… say what you will of Jason Guida but he’s “new school” and he provided his biggest challenge to date.

Bloody hell.

Could be interesting. I don’t know how much it would test Bobby, but even at this age Don might still give him a bit of a fight for a few minutes.

mea culpa on the japan call, might have been off on that one. But who is running Lashley’s career is this is true. He is either really smart or really dumb. Frye is another old fighter toward the end of his career. A win for Frye would do more for Frye than a win for Lashley would do for himself.

frye can still be dangerous and i give him a decent shot if he comes in shape with a good fight plan. if he can avoid a few takedowns at 1rst, b/c you know lashley is eventually gonna take him down, he might test lashleys chin. but for a 4-0 fighter, frye aint half bad as an opponent.

Holy ish, I got promoted to the front page!

This fight, at least to me, really does mean quite a bit more than Lashley’s last few opponents. Guida, quite simply, is terrible. Sapp is a fun fighter, but he’s taylor made to lose to Lashley. Lashley is being brought up properly, I think, and a lot of people are chomping at the bit for him to fight the Brock Lesnars of the world, but something many people forget is that he’s all of 4-0, and isn’t some freak of nature in his progression. I’ve got a feeling I’ll have a chance to talk more about this at length on Thursday’s show, but the long and the short of is that the dude is getting much bigger names (and moneys) than he really deserves at this point in his career.

Email me something that I can care about, and I’ll get you some Bishop-quality material. I got pretty riled up after the faber-pulber 2 fight and that WEC review (it was written, as Matt didn’t want to do a live show) was mostly a rant about him. Afterwards I decided that it would probably be better to make a review around it ;)

Dawg

You can write about whatever you want….make it a fanpost….if it makes good discussion or whatever…it’ll probably get frontpaged…

That’s like telling an elementary school kid to pick any topic they want for a report.. by the time they’ve figured out the topic, they forgot what they needed it for!

Nah, just a short attention span and a lack of concentration ;)

Rants and raves are good, especially if it’s something moderately controversial. I’ll try to think up something in the next week or two, it ain’t like I’ve got work!

Don Frye is old as sin, but he has a big name in the sport, and it would be a feather in Lashley’s cap to defeat one of the last of the old guard of MMA. Frye would also be the first “legit” fighter that Lashley has faced.

Geez, I just looked at the date on this posting; I really am late getting on to this site.
