What Are Your Top 5 UFC Events Of All Time

As we countdown to the landmark UFC 100 event(even though there's been more than 100 UFC events), I was thinking about how much I'm looking forward to some of the match ups.  I also thought about the different events and how I anticipated some of them greatly, while others kinda just came and gone for me not to think about them anymore.  However, there are some events that just stick out in memory and I can pinpoint different things that happened during those events that made them memorable.  So I'm list the top 5 UFC's of all time from my perspective and give my thought process about each event, and I encourage you to drop your 5 events as well.  It can be PPV's or UFN's or TUF Finale's....as long as they are UFC events.  Check it in no particular order:

  • UFC 84-First of all we got to see 8 fights!  However, going into this event we had the main storyline of the whole Tito Ortiz/Dana White saga.  As you all know, anytime Ortiz takes an L it's a good event IMO.  The whole thing with Machida dominating Tito, then coming somewhat close to being submitted at the end was dope.  Then we had Wanderlei Silva with his back against the wall coming off the loss to Liddell at UFC 79.  My dad and brother are both huge Wandy fans as well, and watching him destroy Keith Jardine the way he did just took the event to another level for me.  Then we had a pretty good LW title bout with Penn/Sherk going at it, with Penn finishing Sherk in dramatic fashion.  We got to see a good old fashioned war between Wilson Gouveia and Goran Reljic(where is he btw).  The Thiago Silva/Antonio Mendes fight was pretty action packed while it lasted as well.
  • UFC 66- We got to see 7 fights!  Another event with Ortiz taking the L, this time against Chuck Liddell.  Ortiz was talking all kinds of smack leading up to this one, which made me want to see him get whipped.  I was also interested in the Forrest Griffin/Keith Jardine match up.  I never expected Jardine to stop Griffin like that.  This was also the debut of Michael Bisping on PPV and he was able to win after surviving a scare early.  Overall, there were just some good fights on this card.
  • UFC 52-The card that kind of brought me back to the sport after taking a hiatus from keeping up with the sport like I do now.  This was the first PPV after TUF 1 and one of the larger fights for the UFC at the time.  I remember wanting to see Liddell avenge the loss to Couture, and wanting Frank Trigg to beat Matt Hughes.  That Trigg/Hughes fight was dope as hell.  We only got to see 5 fights if I remember corrrectly, but they were all pretty good fights with good finishes for the most part.
  • UFC 40-In what was the biggest PPV for Zuffa at the time.  I was a HUGE Ken Shamrock fan back in the day, and wanted nothing more than for him to beat(guess who) Tito Ortiz.  This card was stacked with Liddell, Matt Hughes, Babalu, Carlos Newton, Robbie Lawler.  I remember the feeling I got when waiting for the main event to start, with the pyro's going off and Shamrock and Ortiz making their way down to the cage.  That was epic for me, only to see Ortiz run through Shamrock fairly easily with Shammy showing madd heart and a face that looked like hamburger meat afterwards.
  • UFC 92-This card was stacked as you remember with basically 3 main events in one.  All three of those fights ending visciously.  I was anticipating Wandy/Rampage 3 the most, and when Rampage landed that left hook that took Wandy out, I was in awe.  I was really surprised with Frank Mir stopping Nogueira.  Evans/Griffin had me on the edge of my seat the whole fight, and when Evans stopped Griffin that was just icing on the cake for me.  Not only that, we got to see like 7 fights or something like that.

Honorable Mentions-UFC 79, UFC 71, UFC 68, UFC 47, UFC 88(It was my first live UFC event)
