Well, as we have done with the best fights and submissions of 2009, we are now going to finish with the 10 best KO's of 2009 thus far.  We've seen all kinds of KO's from head kicks, to spinning back fists, to double flying knees.  Let's see who made the list below in no particular order:

  • Lyoto Machida vs. Rashad Evans, UFC 98
  • Jose Aldo vs. Cub Swanson, WEC 41
  • Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz, UFC 96
  • Brett Rogers vs. Andrei Arlovski, Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields
  • Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski, Affliction 2
  • Vitor Belfort vs. Matt Lindland, Affliction 2
  • Yahir Reyes vs. Estevan Payan, Bellator 6
  • Ben Henderson vs. Shane Roller, WEC 40
  • Paulo Thiago vs. Josh Koscheck, UFC 95
  • Dan Hardy vs. Rory Markham, UFC 95

Give me your thoughts and feel free to list any other KO's that you thought should have made the list.

As far as significance to the sport: Definitely Machida over Evans. My personal favorite to watch was Brett Rogers over Andrei Arlovski.

Fedor over Arlovski was by far my favorite.

Aldo putting a vagina on Cub’s head was so quick and brutal.

Aldo’s double flying knee on Swanson, that was sick. Vitor’s KO over Lindland was scary. I thought Lindland was dead for a couple of minutes. There were some crazy KOs this year, and we’re only half way through 09.

That insane overhand right from Fedor knocking Arlovski out cold.

Bloody hell.

I was thinking about picking that but it just occured to me that it was more due to Arlovski’s mistake than to Fedor’s punch. If you look back at it, Fedor’s technique was pretty sloppy. Head down, eyes closed is not the way to throw a punch.

That’s what I like about it though – it came from pure instinct in a situation where son was PRESSURED.

Bloody hell.
