Tom Atencio Talks About His Upcoming Fight At Ultimate Chaos

Tom Atencio speaks to MMAMania about his upcoming fight at Ultimate Chaos on this Saturday night:
I have worked on all aspects of my game, both stand up and ground. I believe I have turned myself into a well rounded fighter. I will go into this fight looking to do what I feel comfortable doing and that is what he is going to get. I don’t think there is one thing that I excel at. I am well rounded and feel comfortable letting the fight go where it needs to.
While I don't think having a mma fight right as you are trying to put together a fight card that could ultimately be your last is a smart move. I have to respect Atencio for getting in the cage at 42 years of age. His opponent is supposedly the brawler type from what I've read. It'll be interesting to see how Atencio handles that approach. Atencio is currently (1-0) is his career with the lone win being via decision. One wonders what happens if Atencio gets absolutely destroyed on Saturday night? This is purely conjecture on my part, but I wouldn't be surprised if his opponent wasn't tailor-made for Atencio. I just can't see a guy in his position risking humiliation like that. What do you think...you rooting for or against Atencio?

If he wants to be a fighter, more power to him, I’m not gonna root against him or for him, for that matter.
I do think it is kinda lame that he’s trying to call out Dana White, and say that it could be a huge opportunity for both brands — it would certainly be a huge draw for Affliction, but there’s really nothing for UFC to gain from promoting that fight. If it happened, I’d be watching, but all in all, kinda a silly idea.
Clearly, running a T-Shirt company is a lot different than running an MMA promotion. I think Attencio jumping into MMA was a mistake on his part. He not only might lose in the MMA biz, but after the house of cards has fallen, how’s he even gonna be able to run the T-Shirt outfit if he’s got no money left and no fighters in the UFC wearing their gear.
Affliction MMA from the get-go was not a very well planned thing… You simply cannot base an entire organization on arranging fights for your one really big draw – Fedor. Even Fedor being who he is can’t carry an entire organization on his shoulders.
After I heard that they paid:
Arlovski – $1.5 Mil
Barnett – $600 K
Compared to Fedor’s $300 K
for their second event, I was pretty much convinced that they’d be folding after a handful of events. We’ll have to wait and see, but that seems to be their trajectory – straight into the ground.
It’s unfortunate that the UFC and Fedor can’t come to an agreement. I’d love to see him take on Couture, Mir, Lesnar, Carwin, Velasquez, etc…
Yep….what I’m afraid of is Fedor losing before ever fighting in the UFC….that would suck….actually if he takes an L before fighting in the UFC…I don’t think Dana would pursue him then.

!["Let me tell you something: When I was $44 million in the hole, the last thing I was doing was leaving the office and going out to train for a joke of a fight. I was in the office and trying to find a way to make this thing work. Why would I waste one second of my second of my day worrying about this [expletive] guy? He should be worried about the millions and millions of his bosses, or his partners' money, whoever it is, that's he's burning. That's a complete joke."
