Should Shane Carwin Get The Next UFC Heavyweight Title Shot?

UFC heavyweight contender Shane Carwin

Just thought I'd pass this along from weoweoweo at BloodyElbow: In a recent interview with GroundNPound, Brock Lesnar was quoted saying:

I do not see them (Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez) as threats to me. I like to keep a mindset like that. They are both great wrestlers. Shane Carwin and I actually met the day before UFC 96. He is a great guy - we actually had our punch forces tested too.

We were told to throw the hardest right cross we could on a punching bag. I was able to rack up 1350 pounds per square inch. He did a little over 1200, making my punch harder.

Shane Carwin talked to Fiveouncesofpain.com and he denied ever doing a "punching contest" with Lesnar:

"The guy is a freaking liar. We never meet at UFC 96, I was getting ready for a battle with Gonzaga not hanging out at Dave and Busters with Brock. I do not understand why guys like Brock claim to have tested against me. He has the belt, shouldn’t he be the standard?"

If Brock can get by Frank in a few weeks, this could set up an interesting clash between two heavyweights with similar skillsets. At 34 years of age, now might be the time for Zuffa to make their move with Shane. What do you think? Who would you put as next in line for the winner of the July 11th Lesnar vs. Mir showdown?

Im too busy to read the the piece now...

but I will respond to the question itself: Velasquez vs Carwin to see who gets the winner of Brock/Mir.

See

I don’t think you use Velasquez vs. Carwin to settle a #1 contender right now…While I’d like to see that fight….from a business stand point you’d be using one prospect to eliminate another.

Exactly. Usually lies are more vague (i.e. “Yeah, Shane and I are good friends, yada yada yada” when they’ve actually never met). Brock makes some specific claims in that interview and even mentioned specific timeframes when this supposed punch test occured. Just thought it was kinda goofy if he did actually make up such specific lies.

I think it's has to be that or give the winner of Mir/Brock the winner of Randy/Nog

I can’t see giving Carwin a shot with a win over Gonzaga. I understand the business thing, but as a fan I want to see the good up and comers fight one another, as well as the best veterans fight each other.

Yea

I’d love to see Nogueira get one more run at glory as he’s always been a favorite of mine…and people would probably pay to see Couture/Lesnar again…although I’m not really interested in that one…I like for good up and comers to fight one another as well…but I think they need like one more UFC fight a piece before that should happen…since neither have really had a lot of mins in the cage because they win so damn fast…lol.

Carwin vs Brock would be such an awesome matchup! Just imagine those 2 monsters engaged in battle. Wow! Carwin vs Cain wouldn’t be too shabby either.

I’d like to see Carwin get the winner of Brock and Mir and Cain get the winner of Nog and Randy. That way, Carwin gets a title shot first and Cain gets it later should he beat Nog/Randy.

PUNCH FORCE MACHINE? BROCK LESNAR? RANDY COUTURE? NEVER HEARD OR MET THEM

BROCK PROBALLY GOT THE TIME FRAME WRONG. BUT I KNOW THAT WHEN THEY ARE ABOUT TO RELEASE VIDEO GAMES THEY LIKE TO HAVE THE GUYS COME IN AND DO A BODY SCAN. THATS WHERE THEY MET AND THEY WHERE TOLD TO HIT THE PUNCH FORCE MACHINE BROCK HIT IT BETTER SHANE GOT MAD AND DECIDED TO BLOCK IT OUT OF HIS HEAD. THAT OR THAT GONZAGA PUNCH. LOL

One of them is straight lying, it seems. Either that instance happened or it didn’t. LOL at Shane basically saying “Uh….none of that ever happened. Keep my name out your mouth.”

I'm saying

Well…technically….Brock just said he met Carwin before UFC 96….he didn’t say they had their punches measured AT the same time…they may have done something like hit the bag for measurements in UFC Undisputed or something…and Lesnar got wind of what Carwin was able to do afterwards or something….

Well, that was fun. Turns out this interview (with Brock, I mean) was a fake. Pretty shitty.

I kind of figured… seems like a really weird thing to lie about and Carwin doesn’t strike me as dishonest either.

Bloody hell.

^ How about GroundNPound’s excuse, too? “Someone gained access to our site and posted this.” That’s BS. It ran on their front page and they didn’t say anything about it or take it down, to my knowledge, until someone got word to Lesnar’s camp and called BS.

Yea

That’s MADD suspect….actually I don’t believe that at all….talk about trying to get web hits…lol…wow.

Yea

Carwin definitely wants a shot at Brock next. He snapped back at an interview about Brocks comments. I guess we have to see what happens at UFC 100 before we can speculate.
