Mid Year Awards: 10 Best MMA Fights Of 2009

We are just over halfway thru 2009 and have been treated to some of the best MMA fights we ever seen.  We've seen back and forth battles, guys getting whipped on and coming back to win, nasty KO's, and slick submissions.  We'll be touching on all of those subjects later, but just wanted to highlight some of the best fights of the year thus far in 2009.  In no particular order:

  • Martin Kampmann vs. Carlos Condit, UFN 18
  • Miguel Torres vs. Takeya Mizugaki, WEC 40
  • Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida, UFC TUF 9 Finale
  • Hideo Tokoro vs. Abe Cullum, DREAM.9
  • Mike Brown vs. Urijah Faber II, WEC 41
  • Scott Jorgensen vs. Antonio Banuelos, WEC 41
  • Donald Cerrone vs. Jamie Varner, WEC 38
  • Mac Danzig vs. Josh Neer, UFN 17
  • Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski, Affliction 2
  • Tyson Griffin vs. Rafael Dos Anjos, UFN 18

No surprise in that most of the best fights are from the smaller lightweights.  What say you, and are there any that I may have missed?

I’ll admit my bias :)

Nothing really beats when you’re emotionally invested in a fight — one of those instances where you don’t even care if it sucks as long as your guy wins.

Bloody hell.

Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites? I kid, I kid. But seriously, Banuelos vs. Jorgenson and Torres vs. Mizugaki had me jumpin’ out of my seat.

True

When certain guys fight…I’m tired after the fight because I’m moving and ish just like if I was fighting…lol.

Fedor/AA might be a highlight KO, but not a best fight list candidate.

...some call me "el mexicutioner"...

What about Gurgen Huen?

Yea

That was a good one…I tend to favor fights that have a little of everything in them though…not just standup(although their fight was a war)…good call.
