Tim Sylvia Will NOT Be Fighting Paul Buentello At Affliction 3
Tom Atencio has pulled Sylvia off the card according to MMAFanhouse:
"It's his second knockout in a row, and I don't want to take a chance on anything," Atencio said. "The fight is less than 60 days away."
Atencio added that no one from the California State Athletic Commission contacted him about taking Sylvia off the card, but he felt it was in Sylvia's best interest to take some time off to heal.
Atencio said that Paul Buentellowill still fight on the card, and will probably face the winner of the Pedro Rizzo-Gilbert Yvel fight, which takes place at the June 27 "Ultimate Chaos" event in Biloxi, Miss.
It sucks for Paul Buentello, but in hindsight it's probably working out in his favor now that I think about it. He wouldn't have anything to gain by fighting and possibly beating a guy that just got KTFO by a 48 yr old boxer. Also, Rizzo and Yvel are both standup fights as is Tim Sylvia, so it's not like it will alter his gameplanning. However, with Rizzo/Yvel fighting at the end of this month, Affliction is running a real risk of one of them getting injured and not being able to take the fight with Buentello at Affliction 3. It's Affliction...what else would you expect?
