Report: Gegard Mousasi vs. Renato "Babalu" Sobral At Affliction "Trilogy"

Via M-1Global.com

Sources close to Mousasi have informed www,M-1Global.com that current Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and former UFC competitor Renato "Babalu" Sobral is expected to finalized as his opponent.

Affliction has yet to issue an official comment regarding the possible Sobral vs. Mousasi showdown. However, both fighters have been advertised for the event and a formal announcement by Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio could be made as soon as Wednesday during a scheduled press conference in New York.

Whoa!  Talk about finding a quality replacement!  Gegard Mousasi was originally scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort, however, Belfort did not want to fight at a catchweight.  As stated, Babalu is the current Strikeforce LHW champion and Mousasi is currently ranked in MMA4Real's top ten at MW(although he's announced he wants to move up in weight).  A win against Babalu would probably be bigger than a win over Belfort would at this point.  If this fight is officially announced, how do you see it going?

I like Renato in this one, but I think that this will be a great fight! Nice job by the guys at Affliction for signing this one.

Now this is a fight I can get behind! The Vitor fight wouldn’t have been bad, but his recent ’tude makes for a much better fight.

I just saw Babalu back in Costa Mesa, heard he is getting a divorce. He’s already a dude that uses anger to motivate, he should be a beast in this one.

...some call me "el mexicutioner"...

Mousasi was my pick for Fighter of the Year last year – what with a 6-0 record including stopping some seriously tough competition at MW.

As much as I am a big Babalu fan, Mousasi wins this fight. I mean, dude has been stopping everyone and while Babalu usually has the edge in the submission game, that isn’t the case here. Remember, Sobral lost the first round to Sokoudjou back at the second Affliction show before winning by sub in Round 2 when Soko was unsurprisingly gassed…

Mousasi won’t gas and has a filthy all-around game. I’d love to see him stick at 205 and see what he can do.

Yea, I’m leaning toward Mousasi here.
