A public dispute erupted yesterday after the Cologne City Council discussed the UFC's entry into Germany. Event organizers claim that the council is hell bent on foiling the upcoming event.
"MMA is not a sport because it legitimatizes death and serious injury. The only aim is to destroy your opponent." Adding further: "I personally find disgusting ... Here one finds the lowest human instincts. "

Yall remember all the shit MMA went through to get accepted back in the 90’s? Well, that’s what is happening over in Germany…and will probably happen in every region the UFC tries to break ground…it’s an education process. Just like it was here in the US.

So is this thing not a done deal and yet to be voted on or is this just just public outrage?
I doubt the local government really wants to turn away the dollars the UFC will bring. Seems more like political grandstanding if anything.
...some call me "el mexicutioner"...
Our sport is still teetering on that edge in many places, including some parts of this country. We’ve made massive strides, but there’s still a lot of work to do.
Rick, it just blows me away....
…that people can’t see the ‘sport’ in MMA. How is it any different than boxing or pro-wrestling, really? By that I mean, boxers use their fists to beat the hell out of each other in front of a bloodthirsty crowd, and in pro-wrestling they cut themselves to simulate blood and pump themselves full of steroids and painkillers.
Not trying to knock those two professions here. Just trying to make the point that the days of the old UFC are gone. It is not a human dog fight. It is very clear now that these are skilled professionals and there are rules to promote safety. It is just stupid to me.
