Report: Tim Sylvia vs. Paul Buentello At Affliction "Trilogy"

A heavyweight bout between Tim Sylvia and Paul Buentello has been penciled in for "Affliction: Trilogy," a source close to Sylvia informed Fanhouse on Friday. A member of Buentello's camp told FanHouse that he already signed the bout agreement and Sylvia will be doing the same shortly.

Tim Sylvia is supposed to box Ray Mercer on June 13th, so I would say that Tim Sylvia is making his return to MMA in this bout. However, the chance of either of these fighters taking this fight to the ground is zero. Somebody might be getting KTFO. Who you got?

I think it’s weird that Sylvia would be taking a fight so soon following his fight with Mercer. I guess he assumes he’s going to come away from it without a scratch, but we’ll see.

My money is on Sylvia though.. he’s slipping in some top-ten lists, but considering that he’s 24-5, and that 5 is top competition (Nog, Randy, Fedor, Arlovski and Mir) I don’t see a bum like Buentello taking him out.

Dude – he’s going to fight Ray effin’ Mercer! How can he be considered legitimate when he’s fighting a former boxer?

This is the stuff that gives MMA a bad name and image – these freak show and attention seeking bouts like stupid ass Canseco and this useless matchup.

Buentello isn’t quite a bum either. He’s decent and shouldn’t be counted out this early…

i’ll take buentello over “pee pee taste”. i think fedor just wrecked sylvia’s confidence and buentello has won 2 straight. why not?

plus, it’s not entirely imposible that mercer could ko/tko sylvia, putting sylvia on susoension. it is a boxing match and they say the power is the last to go. maybe mercer could get a hold of some good hgh from his old buddy “evan fields”.

I wouldn’t feel too bad about getting wrecked by Fedor… I mean, he is the best.

You’re right on Mercer though; it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he gets suspended. He’s got a little bit of time in between.. but you never know. It isn’t like he’s going to get cut, so unless he gets KO/TKO’d, he’ll be fine.

My prediction is that he’ll lose the boxing match to old-man Mercer and then beat Paul Buentello. Timmay beats Mercer easily in a real fight, but I’d be surprised if he outboxes even a very old Ray Mercer.
