I Can't Wait For Hughes Vs. Serra!
Ok. There are plenty of other posts out there about Liddell and Silva so I will just say: thank you Chuck for all the great fights wish you luck in all that you do and Anderson, go take a nap somewhere.
Man, I can't wait to see the "Battle Of The Matts"!!! I did a post about this on another site, I really liked my intro:
The time is getting closer. A fight that would have been a lot more relevant back in '07 when it should have happened after TUF 6. Coaches Matt Hughes (43-7-0) & Matt Serra (16-5-0) gave us all a memorable TUF season and a lot of hype leading into their match. Most of that hype has died as the match was hindered for far to long and has lost some of it's initial appeal. With that being said...
but I want to talk a little more about it. Matt Hughes has been my favorite fighter for a long time now. I also have liked Serra for a while too. But I still have to stick with Hughes. I would really like to see Hughes make another run at the welterweight belt but I don't see it happening.
Here's what Hughes had to say on his official site about his training for the Serra fight:
Had a good week of training, last week. I feel like I could do three rounds pretty easy right now. I’ve trained for five rounds since late ‘01 and it just seems that’s what I do anymore. Even though this is a three round fight, I’m training as if it was five. Close to a month out now and I’m heavy, so I’ll start slimming down a little bit. Nate (my webmaster) thought it would be a good idea to talk a little bit about my diet. Of course, I try and eat healthy. A lot of good carbs, protein, good fat and no processed sugar. I do take in some honey, but I count the calories. By good carbs I mean natural foods that aren’t processed. I love sweet potatoes, whole wheat bread, brown rice, oatmeal. Protein’s somewhat easy to find and I try to take my fat in with almonds. I probably eat 6-8 almonds a day (that’s 6-8 individual almonds, not 6-8 bags of almonds). I also eat a lot of fruit. Actually I love fruit and a lot of times fruit can be my dessert. One thing I’ve learned about most of the fruit out there, and a lot of other things, is that it’s catabolic. Catabolic means that it takes more energy to digest than you get out of it. Here are a couple of websites that I have gone to and learned more about these foods:
Catabolic Foods - drkaslow.com
The Best Diet Ever Written! - swfloridabiz.com
A List of Foods That Burn Fat Fast: Go Catabolic - ezinearticles.com
For every meal I try to eat something catabolic and a lot of time my snacks throughout the day are catabolic foods.
Hughes on Liddell and aftermath of Rua fight:
Saturday, I flew straight home and drove to Marc Fiore’s house to watch the UFC. I got there five minutes after Chuck’s fight, the only fight I wanted to see. My flight was delayed 45 minutes out of Orlando and I got to Fiore’s late and didn’t get to watch Chuck’s fight. I was not very happy. Still haven’t seen it, but of course I heard about it and along with Chuck, I just don’t know what to say. I think there are so many people out there that would pay to watch Chuck fight again, including me. If Chuck still has a desire to compete in the UFC, I hope they give it to him. I was really surprised to hear Dana say that if Chuck didn’t have a good performance he might not be back in the UFC. It’s obviously out of my hands right now, but when I hear something I’ll let you know.
Anyway. Good luck Hughes and I know you will do fine in May.

Good stuff
I hope Matt knows that all fruit he loves to eat are full of simple sugars…that turn to fat if you don’t burn it off…just a word to the wise after his fighting days or done :)
Also, Hughes will never be the UFC WW champion again as you stated.
I also hope Serra whips Hughes…although Hughes will probably LnP this win (just like he did in his last win against Chris Lytle).
I guess Hughes doesn’t like Liddell too much…considering that he wants to see him fight again just because he thinks people would pay to see the Iceman in the cage again. Some friend he is when Liddell has permanent brain damage and Hughes is riding in his John Deere tractor nowhere to be found.

Thanks
I took it more as Hughes just saying that it should be Liddells choice if he fights again. And that there are still people out there interested in another Liddell fight.

My thoughts on the Matt's:
Hughes always comes off like an arrogant prick. Serra comes off like a person that just likes to whine and complain about everything. With that being said, I think Hughes takes it by lay and pray or possible ground and pound TKO.
I really don’t care who wins, I just hope it is a good fight that lives up to all the bad blood between the two.
...some call me "el mexicutioner"...

Bummer it took so long to make this fight but I’m still hyped! Honestly I like Hughes as a fighter but can’t stand him outside the octagon…at all! I was always a big fan of his when I was just a semi-hardcore fan (not casual but also not posting on blogs lol). I’ll be rooting for Serra but I think Hughes takes it just because other than BJJ hes the more talented fighter.
Mike Goldberg: "You know Joe, When Matt and his brother Mark Hughes were growing up, they would pound each other behind the barn."

Hughes may not have a BJJ black belt but he still has skills in it.

Serra all the way...
After their coaching stints on TUF I just can not STAND Matt Hughes. I know it may be a bit of a long shot, but I really want Serra to pull this off.
I'm the kind of girl who loves to watch a GOOD fight!

Can’t wait to see Hughes destroy Serra. Serra talks so much junk about Hughes when he’s just as cocky and arrogant as Hughes…

I agree
Serra is a big-mouth. He got lucky and caught GSP and acts like he is a top 10 fighter. He is basically a stereotype of yankees for us southerners.
