Josh Barnett: Not The Best Trainer/Manager In The Game
Linked from Here
In short, Cyborg's claim pretty clearly ALSO tried to pull something slick with the scales before the Hitomi fight. Am I shocked that a fighter blatantly missed weight and guessed that b/c the fight was so high profile she bet that her opponent would unwisely take the fight? No. It's the fight game.
Am I surprised that a fighter/fighter's camp tried to do something slick with the scale? No, Castillo pulled it in boxing, Gatti pretty clearly did something before the Gamache fight (who he retired and gave long term health problems and a court case that took years to settle)......I am surprised that Barnett opted to have Hitomi fight the wrecking machine that is cyborg having not made her cut all the weight.
And then I saw a video interview where he said that "well, we made a deal that will benefit/strengthen our relationship with the organization".....read that: my male fighters will get some good fights etc, and Hitomi fighting a monster who clearly looks like she takes daily dosages of testosterone for 1450 dollars is not my primary concern.
Grimey. Grimy is as grimey does in the fight game.

I don’t see what this has to do with Josh Barnett. He didn’t want her to take the fight, and the cash went into Hitomi’s pocket. I was also lead to understand that the “relationship” business was that her team mates (ie female team mates) would have better opportunities. I think Hitomi made like, 2-2.5 times as much as she would have before, which was a big bump from what she was making in Japan anyway. She gets a payday, her team mates get fights, and Strikeforce keeps their fights. Everybody wins.. sort of.

Barnett’s job was to tell her not to take a fight where Cyborg came in (unprofessionally, and to the point where it’s clear) not intending to make weight. Hitomi got beaten by someone who blew off cutting weight and made 1450 bucks for it. fighters fight. managers advise/arrange. he did a piss poor job for his part.
Gatti. Dekkers. Pele. Aoki. Kang. Vanderlei.
