UFC Officially Announces UFC 98 And More

Just some fight announcements and whatnot that I didn't feel like making seperate posts about.  As most of you know already the UFC officially announced UFC 98 today.  Which will be headlined by Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir 2 for the undisputed UFC HW title.  Also officially announced for the card will be the following fights:

  • Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra
  • Yushin Okami vs. Dan Miller
  • Sean Sherk vs. Frankie Edgar
  • Drew McFedries vs. James Irvin
  • Phillipe Nover vs. Kyle Bradley
  • Pat Berry vs. Tim Hague
  • Houston Alexander vs. Andre Gusmao
  • Yoshiyuki Yosida vs. Brandon Wolff
  • Dave Kaplan vs. George Roop

For some odd reason I was unaware of Yushin Okami being on this card, and the fact that he's facing Dan Miller is surprising.  A win for Miller here would be HUGE.  As you can see the "Sandman" James Irvin will be returning from his steroid suspension to face Drew McFedries.  I gurantee that fight will not be going the distance.

-The Wanderlei Silva/Rich Franklin bout is now official.

Also Alessio Sakara vs. Alan Belcher is supposed to be on tap for UFC 99. Sakara is a step down in competition for Belcher in my opinion. I’d much rather see him against Wilson Gouveia or Jason MacDonald. How can you go from fighting Denis Kang to Alessio Sakara?

it seems like it’s been years since the hughes/serra feud…wait a minute, it has been years. still want to see serra knock hughe’s head off though. brock/mir 2 is going to be huge imo. what kind of ppv buys do you guys see them doing? i’m thinking betwen 750-800k. that sounds high, but the ufc’s ppv’s has been going over everybodies predictions. i think 93 did like 325k (awesome for an overseas show). i think brock is a big enough star to pull in those type of #s on a consitant basis. well see.

I agree, I think the baseline for a PPV with Brock is around 750-800K depending on who he’s fighting and who’s the co-main event.

can't wait for lesnar and mir 2

I think both Mir and Lesnar are cocky, self-absorbed SOB’s but for some reason I just like Lesnar’s cocky self-absorbed personality better than Mir’s. I’m pretty confident Mir will get clobbered this time which makes me a very happy girl. :)

Preach. Lesnar is entertaining to me because he annoys the hell out of everybody – Mir just plain annoys me.

Bloody hell.

Oh Yea

I forgot that Josh Koscheck vs. Chris Wilson will probably take place on this card.

What do you think of Koscheck fighting so much?

It could all horribly backfire on him or he could develop a hell of a record and reputation…

It could backfire..the only gripe I have is that he’s fighting fights that don’t help him climb the ladder back to a title shot as ‘theworldsoldestsport’ said above^

I’m all for a fighter getting his paper though.
