Report: Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera At UFC 101

According to MMAMadness:

Matt "The Hammer" Hamill (6-2) and Brandon "The Truth" Vera (10-3) are set for UFC 101 according to a source close to the event.

I'm going to treat this as a rumor for now, as I don't really know the validity of the report.  If this does turn out to be valid, I think this is a VERY good match up.  This would also feature two fighters that I mentioned a few weeks back, in terms of fighters that were about to help change the UFC LHW landscape.  Hamill has a granite chin, good power, and good takedowns.  Vera will have the standup and reach advantage.  A lot of questions in this fight.  Give me your thought on this.  Once this gets confirmed I'll update the title.  By the way, UFC 101 is already stacking up to be dope.

[Note by Kelvin Hunt, 03/30/09 8:20 AM EDT ]MMAWeekly has confirmed the report to be factual.

Great, great fight – both because I think it will be really entertaining to watch but also because they’re close in rank and this will answer many questions – can Vera deal with a powerful wrestler, can Hamill deal with a sharp striker he simply can’t bully around with his power in the stand-up?

I’m glad they’re building guys slowly, but sometimes someone simply has to lose. I don’t even know who I pick to win this, leaning a little towards Matt.

Bloody hell.

yeah this is a very good fight for all the reasons 3PA gave…they seem to have strengths where the other has weakness, so it’s going to be fireworks if you ask me…aggressive Vera, is a scary Vera, if he keeps up his aggression I think he could chop down Matt like Franklin did, but if he’s hesitant like he was against Jardine, Hamill will bully him

I agree…this will look similar to Franklin/Hamill IMO.

great match-up. my 1rst instinct says vera, but hamill is a tough dude. vera looked so much better in his last fight as did hamill. this is very good matchmaking by joe silva.

Matt should take Vera down and try to dominate but you know what…he won’t…he’ll stand and Vera will get the KO in the 2nd.
