Tim Sylvia vs. Ray Mercer Boxing Match Called Off

MMAWeekly with the news:
A boxing “superfight” of sorts between former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia and former WBO heavyweight boxing champion Ray Mercer has been struck from Adrenaline III on May 30 at the Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City, N.J.Adrenaline III will go on as an all-MMA card, and several replacements for the main event are under consideration, including Jeremy Horn.
Adrenaline promoter Monte Cox is currently searching for another venue to host the Sylvia/Mercer tilt, and indicated June as a possibility for the rescheduled event.
The New Jersey commission didn't say why they wouldn't sanction the fight. However, it was surely do to Sylvia's lack of professional boxing experience or something of that nature. It's interesting that Monte Cox is going to try and reschedule this bout. Is he not going to respect the NJ athletic comissions wishes, and try to manipulate another sanctioning body like a little kid does their parents when they get told 'no'?

I’m down for that any day of the week. Maybe Kelvin will host the video on here.. it can’t be that big, considering the length ;)

I could care less if were to ever even fight again. The guy is a sellout and a disgrace IMO.
They are going all out with Jeremy Horn possibly being in the main even. Real quality card.

AND THE CROWD GOES… mild.
I don’t know of ANYONE who cared about this fight in any capacity greater than a freakshow fight. Boxing fans don’t want to see MMA, and MMA fans typically don’t want to see boxing. “Hey let’s mix the two!” they say.. brilliant. Why don’t you try to mix up oil and water while you’re at it, maybe there will be some success. And Jeremy Horn for a main event? Come on. I used to love Jeremy Horn when he was into fighting, but it’s fairly obvious at this point that the dude just isn’t as interested in it as he used to be. Horn is a legit mid-card replacement fighter, but using him as a cornerstone for an event like that is going to work out almost as well as banking on Ken Shamrock for an EliteXC main event.

Tim Sylvia just got lucky. He just dodged the bullet that could have permanently ended his MMA career. If he fought Mercer and looked silly he’d be an even bigger joke than he is now……if that’s possible.
