Quoteworthy: BJ Penn On NSAC Hearing And Defending UFC Lightweight Title

BJ Penn Speaks To FightersOnly About Defending His LW Title:
We’re looking for a return, we have to defend the lightweight title. It’s been long, it’s been overdue since we defended the lightweight title. I had to heal up some of my injuries that I suffered from the Georges St. Pierre fight. I’m all good now so we’re gonna move forward with my same team, my same camp and we’re gonna make a run to defend the lightweight title — I think it’s either late July or early August.
Thank GOD.

before the 2nd gsp fight and the ensuing bs that bj has tried to pull, i would have never picked any lw over bj, but now, with bj at the same camp with the same “yes men” and him having his mommy at the hearings (lol!) i going with ken-flo. i think if kenny can get it into the later rnds, bj will fold. it’s funny how alot were saying that gsp was the mental midget after the 1rst serra fight (and for quite awhile afterwards), but now it is apparent that bj is the mentally weak kind. at least bj is talking about fighting kenny sometime in july or august. i was worried that he might retire after he didn’t get his way with the nsac.
Wow, a legit quote? I’m shocked that he didn’t just shout out “Check out BJPENN.com!” and walk away…
Seriously though I hope he spends all his time crying to the NASC about how sharp Florian’s elbows are, and how they should be dulled down so someone doesn’t get decapitated. The GSP thing needs to die, and a big fight with Florian might just take the attention away from it long enough for people to forget.

did you catch the whole video interview? that interviewer’s lips must hurt from kissing bj’s ass so hard.
Oh man, Penn isn’t going to do an interview like that unless he knows they’re going to do exactly what he wanted. If I were interviewing him (not in person, mind you), I’d at least tease him about bringing his mom along. Or something like “If he hadn’t been greased, do you think that he wouldn’t have beat you so badly? Or maybe you would’ve gone to decision instead of an outright forfeit?” It’s all lip service, plain and simple. “How is your rib, since it caused you to lose to Matt Hughes?” would be another good one.
Oh, and him saying that he’s going through all these shenanigans “for the sport”? Unbelievable.

Florian, Sanchez and perhaps even Sherk (if he uses his wrestling to greater effect) have what it takes to beat BJ. They all have greatly superior cardio and we all know what happens once BJ starts to gas.
BJ’s only shot at beating them is getting them early. But they are all tough as nails and can take a lot of punishment and still keep coming.
Looking at the Kenny-BJ fight, I just don’t see where BJ has an advantage. Kenny’s striking has vastly improved and he is so hard to take down. Even on the ground, he is almost impossible to submit. He has a great chin and is lethal with his elbows. I’m going to bet a lot of money on Kenny winning this.

I’m by no means a BJ hater but definitely pulling for Florian. I like that dude…true student of the game.
btw, looks like Diego’s getting way too much love in this division.

Diego gets too much love in any division. His run off TUF was impressive, but the kool-aid is wearing fairly thin…
