UPDATE: Gleison Tibau vs. Melvin Guillard At TUF 9 Finale

MMAWeekly with the scoop:

With UFC 101 still several months away the promotion has already started to put together some of the match-ups on the card. On Monday, MMAWeekly.com confirmed that a lightweight bout between Thiago Tavares and Melvin Guillard would be added to the show.

Guillard has had multiple problems outside the cage, and has been out of action since beating Dennis Siver at UFC 86.  Tavaras was last seen in action at UFC 94, winning a unanimous decision over TUF finalist Manny Gamburyan.  Guillard has KO power when it comes to the standup game, but has suspect submission defense.  That just happens to be Tavares's speciality, so it'll be interesting to see if the time Guillard has put in with Saul Solez has paid off.

Give me your thoughts on this matchup.

UPDATE:[Note by Kelvin Hunt, 04/25/09 11:03 AM EDT ]

Thiago Tavares has had to pull out of this matchup with an injury and Gleison Tibau has been tabbed as the replacement to take on Melvin Guillard according to MMAJunkie.  Originally reported to place at UFC 101, this fight will now take place on the TUF 9 Finale on June 20th.

how many more chances does guillard get? i’d say this is the last. tavares stay in the ufc hasn’t been much better, but he stays out of trouble. could end up being a good fight though. i’ll take tavares by sub. guillard seems prone to submissions.

If he stays on the feet…Guillard…if it goes to the ground…Tavaras has a good shot at the sub.

Seems like they’re squeezing one more fight out of Melvin before discarding him with finality.

Bloody hell.

Its sad to see physically gifted individuals like Melvin ruin their careers. Like I’ve said before, he has everything one could possible want as a fighter. Like GSP, he is what one would call the prototype fighter – athleticism, speed, strength …..he has it all. Sadly his work ethic is nothing like GSP’s.

Nor is his ability to make sound decisions….in and outside of the cage.
