Report: Paulo Thiago vs. Jon Fitch Likely For UFC 100

According to a report from Tatame, a matchup between Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago is likely to take place at UFC 100. Paulo Thiago is coming off a devastating KO victory over Fitch's AKA teammate in Josh Koscheck. Thiago was getting dominated on the feet before tagging Koscheck with 2 punch combination that put the #4 ranked welterweight in the world down. Jon Fitch is coming off a dominating decision win over savvy MMA veteran Akihiro Gono at UFC 94. I think this is excellent matchmaking in that it puts the undefeated Brazilian in against top competition once again. Which should give us a better indication in terms of if his win over Koscheck was a fluke or not. Fitch likes to take opponents down and grind them out with his size, however, Thiago's strength is his ground game. UFC 100 is stacking up nicely thus far. Give me your thoughts on this fight.

It’s funny how guys that are establishing themselves and have victories under their belts in the division, like Rumble Johnson, Dan Hardy and Marcus Davis, aren’t getting the matches with the divisions top guys, but a new guy like Thiago is getting thrown to the wolves right off the bat. It makes it seem like the intent is to try and pad these guys (Fitch, Kos) records or something. I mean if Thiago wins are they going to give him the winner of GSP/Alves like Fitch probably will if he wins? I doubt it, so this fight really doesn’t make sense to me, other than the “teammate revenge angle”, or the more obvious reason – that Dana and Joe Silva are counting on Thiago to lose to give Fitch another title shot.
I’m hoping Thiago pulls off a Jardine in his one.
...some call me "el mexicutioner"...
I think Johnson and Hardy are seen as prospects that can be ‘built’ into superstars respectively. Whereas, Thiago was brought in to lose against Koscheck. They clearly didn’t consider him a prospect, as I read somewhere that his fight with Koscheck was a one fight deal. This fight against Fitch is a chance to prove himself, because he was getting handled before catching Koscheck…if he puts up a fight against Fitch then they might bring him back.
In terms of Marcus Davis…I don’t think he’ll ever be a title contender. The guy has clearly painted himself into a corner with his willing to stand and trade/be exciting mentality as of late. I think the UFC will use him just for that.

thiago’s management should be fired. i understand the koscheck fight to get your foot in the door….and he got the hail mary. i dont’ see fitch getting subbed. i want him to be the stingray again and pull off a submission win….but, realistically, i won’t hold my breath.

![From MMAJunkie.com:
Strikeforce heavyweight and former NFL great Herschel Walker (1-0 MMA, 1-0 SF) suffered a deep cut in training and has been forced to withdraw from next month's "Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu" event.
Strikeforce officials today confirmed the change with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
Featuring a light heavyweight matchup between Dan Henderson and Renato "Babalu" Sobral, "Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu" takes place Dec. 4 and airs on Showtime.
"I feel terrible about this," Walker stated in today's official release. "I know things like this happen in all sports, but I had trained very hard and was excited to be returning to the cage again."
Walker had been expected to face one-time WEC veteran Scott Carson (4-1 MMA, 0-0 SF).
According to Strikeforce officials, a Daniel Cormier knee strike opened a "deep cut under [Walker's] left eye that required multiple stitches"...
Despite the setback, Walker said he hopes to return to action quickly.
"I hope to fight again as soon as the cut heals," Walker said.](http://cdn3.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/161814/herschel-walker-2_small.jpg)
