Andrei Arlovski Signs With Golden Boy Promotions

According to Gary Herman Andrei Arlovski has signed with Golden Boy Promotions:

Andrei Arlovski has signed an agreement with Golden Boy Promotions.

Full details of the deal are not known at this time, but Arlovski had been rumored to enter the boxing world since early in 2008. Recently, trainer Freddie Roach confirmed that Arlovski was going to start boxing following the fight with Fedor Emelianenko. At the time, Roach stated that he wanted to Arlovski to challenge WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev.

I suppose it's more than just a rumor now if this report is accurate.  For an MMA fighter, Arlovski does have solid boxing technique.  However, I'm still not sure if he'll enjoy success in the squared circle.  I'm sure he'll be 'protected' in the beginning, but once he faces some of the top guys it could be lights out.  His chin has been questioned for a while now.  While the gloves will be a lot bigger, he'll be absorbing more punches than before due to not having to worry about the ground game.

Do you think Arlovski has what it takes to become a boxing champion?  Discuss.

I think he can get it done..

This is very interesting, I think it is a smart move, the big money is still in boxing.

dont forget there, if alovski gets knocked down, he gets a 10 second count, or a standing 8 count in some states if he gets wobbled. most of these counts end up being 15-20 seconds before the fight is restarted . think in the 2nd sylvia fight where he got knocked down but not out towards near the end of the round. think of what might have happened if the fight was stopped to give andrei a ten count. he probably could have survived the rnd. thats the big difference between between mma and boxing, plus the usage of bigger gloves in boxing. i almost think it’s unfaif to say a hw in mma has a weak chin, b/c these guys are so big and use such small gloves.fedor knocked him cold, but arlovski’s chin was flying straight into fedor’s fist, and we all know how hard fedor punches, but i doubt if we will see andrei trying any flying knees in boxing. i find it hars to belive as well that an mma fighter can going into a boxing ring and beat really good boxers, like the klitchkos. i know that they incorporate alot of boxing in their trianing, but it’s nothing compared to what pro-boxers spend fighting in the golden gloves, having hundreds of amatuer fights. i respect roach alot, so i think if he is willing to put his name behind arlovski, then maybe there is something to it. i too think it will be interesting to find out. i just hope he finds his way back to mma someday soon, b/c i still think he is a force to be reckoned with.

I agree 100%

The same thing that makes me mad about boxing is what could help Arlovski. I hate watching a guy get knocked out, but the count saves him. He holds until the round is over and comes back.

That happened in the 1st Taylor vs. Pavlik fight.
