Prior to beating Nogueira, Mir had beaten a green Brock Lesnar and Antoni Hardonk. I couldn’t let him leapfrog Nogueira just off of that win.
head to head
There is no better way to judge who is better.

after that fight you have to..
GSP after that beat him head to head ,so yes. Since then GSP beat him head to head and has rattled off 5 straight victories.
To be the man you have to beat the man..

Ok Ric Flair!
Nah, I don’t think you can apply that philosophy to MMA in every instance because of the unpredictable nature of MMA. I would have had a problem putting Matt Serra as the #1 WW in the world at the time.
rankings
Fluctuate, you beat some body head to head you deserve to be ranked ahead of them.
Just like in the NFL, do you think NYG would have beat the Patriots in a 3 game series? No way, but on that day they were the better team, and they deserved to be called world champs.

Right
But in college basketball…if a team ranked #25 in the nation beats the #1 team…they are not going to be ranked #1.
You do if you win the national championship.

Your thoughs
On Uriah Faber?
I like Anthony Johnson in Welterweight. Looking forward to his next fight this weeekend.

Okami hasn’t impressed me at all…he couldn’t put Dean Lister away…Lawler is tough as hell son! Who should be at #3 IYO?
Mousasi? He has beat Manhoef and Jacre his last two fights were Lawler has beat Scott Smith and Ninja (who I think is terribly overrated). Plus Mousasi is on a 11 fight win streak in MMA. Fair argument?
Dude, nobody finishes Lister. Not Arona in 05, not Horn in 03, and not even Marquardt in 07. Besides he’s beaten MacDonald and Swick, and was competitive with Franklin, almost sinking in a choke in the 3rd.
I think he’s comparable with Lawler, Marquardt, and Mousasi. Any combination of them between three and six makes sense to me.
"I see him beating Anderson Silva. I see him picking him apart. Him at a 131 years old...(trails off)." - Tito on Belfort at Affliction:DOR
Somewhat
Those fighters Mousasi beat were terribly one dimensional though. Lawler is 8-1 since 2005 against more seasoned competition.
No Featherweight rankings? C’mon.

3rd best Mw
Nathan Marquardt is easily the 3rd best MW. Watch for Belfort to be on the rise he looked amazing against Linland, but one fight doen’t put you in the top 10 yet. Gegard Mousasi should be ahead of Lawler as well. Hell I think Maia could beat Lawler too, Lawler would def. have the better standup but once it hits the ground the fights over! Maia trains with amazing fighers (wandi etc..) to help with his standup. Wheres Franklin? He’s still a top 10 MW, he just isn’t competeing there right now but he’ll be back before he retires.
WANDERLEI SILVA!!!! Once he comes down to MW he’ll be a monster!!!

![From MMAJunkie.com:
Strikeforce heavyweight and former NFL great Herschel Walker (1-0 MMA, 1-0 SF) suffered a deep cut in training and has been forced to withdraw from next month's "Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu" event.
Strikeforce officials today confirmed the change with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
Featuring a light heavyweight matchup between Dan Henderson and Renato "Babalu" Sobral, "Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu" takes place Dec. 4 and airs on Showtime.
"I feel terrible about this," Walker stated in today's official release. "I know things like this happen in all sports, but I had trained very hard and was excited to be returning to the cage again."
Walker had been expected to face one-time WEC veteran Scott Carson (4-1 MMA, 0-0 SF).
According to Strikeforce officials, a Daniel Cormier knee strike opened a "deep cut under [Walker's] left eye that required multiple stitches"...
Despite the setback, Walker said he hopes to return to action quickly.
"I hope to fight again as soon as the cut heals," Walker said.](http://cdn3.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/161814/herschel-walker-2_small.jpg)
