Georgia MMA: Redline Grand Prix moved to March due to Lima hand injury.

Redline Grand Prix moved to March due to Lima hand injury.

Atlanta, GA- Dubbed the most Anticipated Cage Fighting Tournament in Georgia history, The REDLINE Grand Prix put eight of the regions toughest middleweights in a cage to face off in a single elimination competition for a 10,000 dollar grand prize. The finals which were set to happen in January between Cortez Coleman a student of Matt Hughes and Robbie Lawlor’s Hit Squad in St. Louis Missouri and home town favorite Doulas "The Phenom" Lima from American Top Team Atlanta, will be postponed until March 2009.

Lima suffered injury during a three round war with Clint Hester en route to a decision victory in the semi finals of the tournament on November 13 at Center Stage.  After X rays proved his right hand had a fracture in the bone leading to his index finger, Lima underwent surgery and will be unable to train for weeks.

"We had a tough decision to make, the contract states that if a contestant cannot continue, we have the right to replace the contestant with his previous opponent or a one suitable. After weighing out our options we have decided it would be best to put of the Finals to March and continue with our preciously scheduled card." Stated Sin City Fight Club owner William "Soco" McAlister. "We started this tournament to find the best, and although the other contestants fought their hearts out, it would damage the credibility of the whole thing, and leave us all saying ‘What if ’."

Cortez Coleman took the news of the postponement well, stating " I have known Lima for a few years now, me and Hester would be a fun match up, but I really want to fight Lima and determine who really is the best. So if we have to wait, we have to wait."

Lima obviously had positive things to say about the extension, "It sucks that this happened, but I’m just really glad Soco and Sin City Fight Club has given me this opportunity and didn’t replace me. I’m going to give this hand time to heal and go spend some time with American Top Team in Coconut Creek, FL. So I will hopefully turn it into a blessing and win this for all the fans here in the ATL."

Sin City Fight Club has also announced it has partnered with SportFight X (a new promotion based out of Atlanta poised to become Atlanta’s first all pro MMA organization) for its upcoming January 16 card. Stay tuned for details.

When I was at the event the doctors where checking his hand and told me that is was only a minor break. I guess it was worse then they antisipated.

Hate to hear it. Sometimes those hand injuries can be a hassle to bounce back from.
