Junior dos Santos, boxing coach, Luis Dorea said the Brazilian heavyweight faces former Pride fighter Gilbert Yvel, who comes from an devastating knockout victory over Pedro Rizzo.

"’Cigano’ is a young guy, a great talent", Dorea said. "We know Gilbert is a very strong guy, he like to fight standing, but ‘Cigano’ is better in striking now, we’re doing our job and I know we’re gonna get the victory".

Me neither

It’s a dangerous fight for Gilbert. Dos walked through the punches of Mirko, so he might be able to shrug those of Yvel also. But if he can’t he will take Gilbert down and submit him. Barry or Hardonk would’ve been a better match up for a first fight in the UFC, IMO.

nice, very nice. iv’e been wondering why yvel had not signed with someone yet, i know he just got liscensed in vegas, but it was worth the wait. great match-up.

if dos santos has the ground game that he should from working with the nogueira brothers, then he could possible make this a short fight. that being said i hope he wants to keep it standing!

how much would that suck if dos Santos got KO’d by Yvel, who I don’t think has much of a chance at the upper echelon of HWs

YVEL

I love Yvel as a fighter but not so much as a person, he has made some really shitty decisions in the ring/cage. But he the ability can beat ANYBODY, He has just allways been terrible on the ground. Mark my words. . .If it is a straight up stand up war Yvel will be competitive in this fight. We may get to see a sub from sontos. But I agree with above comments, that Yvel will never be an elite heavyweight. De daos allways come in alil chubby. So I think he could be a 205’er. Has he ever fought at that weight before???

True. I’m not a fan of some of the antics in Yvel’s past either. Having said that, though, that fight should be all action and fun to watch.
