My Top Five MMA Events Of 2009

Firstly, this list consists of events that I've seen and granted I wasn't able to watch ever major MMA event that happened this year.  Especially the Japanese events since Time Warner Cable pulled the plug on my HDNet.  Plus a brother wasn't able to purchase every MMA PPV this year either, but luckily we got a bunch of great MMA for free on Versus, Spike, and Showtime.  So without further ado my top 5 events are below, but I had trouble picking my top event of 2009 so I included a poll so yall could help a brother out.

  • WEC 41: Brown vs. Faber 2-A great main event with several very good fights.
  • UFC 95: Sanchez vs. Stevenson-This was the first event that I can recall that we got to see EVERY fight on the card which was 10 fights.  This event featured great KO's, a huge upset, great submissions, and a solid main event.
  • Strikeforce: Evolution-Granted, I didn't get to watch 100% of this card.  What I did get to see was pretty good.  The main event featured a great turn of events with what was a good co-main event fight.
  • UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun-We got to see 9 fights overall that featured a very good main event.  We got to see good KO's and just overall good competitive fights.
  • Affliction: Day Of Reckoning-Well TWC hadn't dropped HDNet at this time, so I was able to watch the prelims there before catching the main event.  This event featured great KO's, submissions, and just good fights for the most part.

I know most will disagree but I thought the Carano/Cyborg card and UFC 96 AND 101 were some really really good cards

Am I the only one who thinks Strikeforce on CBS was a great card?

It was good

Not great IMO…the Shields/Miller fight just killed that one for me…plus..you only got to see 4 fights….I think Evolution was slightly better overall.

UFC 95

had it all for me, and i even managed to get a friend mildly interested in MMA after it!

thats a start people ! LoL!

broke my heart to pick it at the same time cos Machida v Rua was a close second especially after Shogun put some hurting on the Dragon! i’d say he still cant walk properly

i voted other-UFC 100. great fights, great finishes, 2 titlle shots, no contraversies.
gsp’s total dominance over another top ww (alves).
hendo’s devastating ko of bisping.
brock’s emergence as the undisputed UFC hw champ and clear cut #2 hw in the world (behind fedor)after ONLY 5 fights.
akiyama’s debut vs belcher was an awsome fight and just icing on the cake.
the sheer magnitude and spectacle of this event definetly lived up to it’s billing.
