The Top One Sided Beat Downs Of 2009

GSP Destroyed BJ Penn At UFC 94

I continue with my top ten lists to close out 2009, so I was thinking about some fights in which guys just got destroyed this year.  The first one that came to mind was the GSP/Penn fight and then I just went from there.

  • George St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn at UFC 94-After the first round this fight was all GSP as BJ Penn couldn't stop the take downs and began to fade from the torrid pace set early in the fight.  Penn was cut in the fight which is a feat considering the guy has leather for skin.  Penn's corner called the fight at the end of the fourth round.
  • Jon Jones vs. Stephan Bonnar at UFC 94-This was the coming out fight for Jones as he slammed Bonnar all over the octagon and displayed a dazzling set of unorthodox striking.
  • Junior dos Santos vs. Stefan Struve at UFC 95-dos Santos proved his destruction of Fabricio Werdum was no fluke as he did the same thing to Struve within a minute of the first round.
  • Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell at UFC 96-This fight ends up on the list moreso because the referee in the fight was an idiot.

Star-divide

  • Lyoto Machida vs. Rashad Evans at UFC 98-Lyoto Machida made it two fight ending TKO's in a row with this destruction of Rashad Evans.  It was the first time we've ever seen Evans really hurt in a fight and the combo that put him away was devastating to crown Machida the UFC light heavyweight champ.
  • Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir at UFC 100-This fight was more like me taking my little brother out in the backyard and destroying him the way Lesnar held Mir down and pounded him out.
  • Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin at UFC 101-Silva put on a dominant display of striking while taunting and evading Griffin's attack in this one.  It wasn't even a contest.
  • Cain Velasquez vs. Ben Rothwell at UFC 106-Rothwell never had a chance in this one as Velasquez threw him around the way my lil daughter tosses around her cabbage patch kid doll.
  • BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez  at UFC 107-Most people including myself thought Sanchez would give Penn more of a fight, but Penn absolutely shut Sanchez down in this one.  That was 5 rounds of a whole lot of ass whipping as Nate Diaz would say.
  • Nick Diaz vs. Scott Smith at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields-The number of punches that Smith absorbed in this fight was bordering on assault.  Diaz put on a clinic in this one and finished the fight off by choking Smith out in the third round.

Jones was not dominating Bonnar through out the fight. He just made Bonnar look horrible and some what ineffectual.

Pete Sell was fortunate that Matt Brown had a heart. Yeah the referee was really, really horrible. That was kind of sad.

    “It wasn’t even a contest”
    Machida
    Silva
    GSP
JOSE ALDO* (most of his ’09 fights except the Brown fight)

Nick Diaz. He freaking competes in triathalons. I’m surprised many people are not screaming about his incredible cardio. BTW, Diaz did the same damn thing to Frank Shamrock.

I gotta give Jake Shields props for his victory over Robbie Lawlor. Straight Execution. Not to mention Brett Rogers decimation of former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei “I train with Freddie Roach” Arlovski.

    Yea

I almost put that one on there instead of Jones/Bonnar…Jones beat Bonnar down longer..so he made the cut..

With all those throws Jones did on Bonner

the one sidedness was a lot more entertaining.

GSP/Penn2 wins easily in this category. You have two top p4p fighters and one simply crushed the other.

Some people are like Slinkies... not really good for anything, but you still can't
help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...
