The Ten Worst MMA Fights Of 2009
First of all, I'd like to say I respect anyone that gets in that cage/ring and lays it on the line for my entertainment. However, there were several times in which I was watching a fight this year and almost feel asleep due to the excitement I was experiencing. There are a lot of factors that contribute to a fight being 'bad' in my opinion. It can be lack of action, a main event not delivering, sloppy technique, etc. So without further ado, below you'll find my personal top ten for worst MMA fights in 2009 in no particular order.
1. Nate Diaz vs. Clay Guida at UFC 94
2. Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leitesat UFC 97
3. Kimbo Slice vs. Houston Alexanderat TUF 10 Finale
4. Travis Lutter vs. Jason MacDonald at MFC 22
5. Antonio McKee vs. Carlo Praterat MFC 22
6. Jake Shields vs. Jason Miller at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers
7. Mark Coleman vs. Shogun Ruaat UFC 97
8. Rich Franklin vs. Vitor Belfort at UFC 103
9. GSP vs. BJ Penn II at UFC 94
10. Antonio McKee vs. Derrick Noble at MFC 20
I know some of you saw this list and probably said WTF? The majority of these were just fights that lacked a large amount of action. I know you may be asking, how could a fight that didn't goto the judges end up on this list? Well, the Franklin/Belfort fight was just underwhelming to me. There was little to no action prior to Belfort putting Franklin away, and the way he put him away just kind of had me like...that's it? Dunno, just left a bad taste in my mouth. With GSP/Penn II, that was just a one sided beat down. It was so bad that it wasn't even really entertaining in my opinion. So let's see your lists, or you can just criticize mine :) or both.

Decent list, I can definitely see why these fights made the list.
While I thought Fitch vs. GSP was cool and exciting I was a little bit let down by GSP vs. Alves because it was more or less the same thing that you would expect. Takedown followed by takedown, followed by ground and pound and attempt to better his position.
8. No one really discusses a possible illegal blow from Belfort. It is what it is.
Antonio McKee . . . Why is his name on the list twice?!? Is is racial?!? Just kidding, he seriously unapologetic for doing what many fighters have been doing for quite a while . . . getting the W using your best weapon.

Correction:
“Just kidding, he’s seriously unapologetic”

I think maybe Dana White wanted to throw Coleman a bone or something.

Starnes vs Quarry
Those fights were all pretty bad but I think Nate Quarry Vs. Kalib Starnes was a whole lot worse than all of them.
Ash

i disagree with #6, i thought there was alot of good ground tech in that fight and although it didnt quite live up to the hight i was entertained by it
scott THE BARRBARIAN barr
there definitely was
the thing with that fight is that Shields had multiple chances to really try to end that fight..and he didn’t do it…I LOVE technical ground fighting…Maia/MacDonald comes to mind….but when you have a guy that constantly acheives dominant positions not looking to end the fight? BOO@ that…

. . . Shields . . . hmmm.
Frank Shamrock called out Shields and say he really messed it up for Strikeforce. He would never fight him.

Pretty good list. I would have Mayhem and Shields a little higher and you could add Jason McDonald’s last fight at the MFC to the list as well as the Leites and Dean Lister fight that was on that very same god awful card.
Call me crazy, but as much as people have ripped Coleman/Shogun for being a train wreck I liked that fight.
I failed to mention
they are not in any particular order….
