Frank Shamrock: Jake Shields Is A Boring Fighter

I never thought i’d say this but I agree with Frank Shamrock. I can’t attribute Shields’ performance alone for stinking up the ratings but it certainly didn’t help. Shields is a boring fighter and in my opinion is only ranked among the elite because of his subpar opponents.

Jake is very good at subbing strikers who have no ground game or dry humping grapplers to win a fight via position. However, put him in a fight with a well rounded fighter and he has very few outs. We saw it with Miller, who isn’t even that good, where Jake had no way of ending the fight. His GnP is pathetic, his subs are basic, his striking is laughable and his wrestling is dependent upon having the size or strength advantage.

What would Shields do against a MW like Jacare who he can’t submit, would be foolish to try taking down or can’t even stand with? Or against a WW like GSP who again he can neither takedown, submit or stand with?

The guy is a b-level fighter with a reputation based on poor opposition or capitalizing on the over specialization of one-dimensional opponents. He has been ducking elite opponents his entire career reguardless of how much he claims to want to fight the best of the best.

Shields can be a boring fighter if he’s fighting another dude with no standup. With that said, if Shamrock is going to be talking down about the dude, he should step up and take the fight. However, who wants to see that? I don’t. I’m certain that Shields makes him look like a retarded old man, and I’d be shocked if Shields didn’t think the same thing.

The only person who thinks that Frank Shamrock is still rellevant is Frank Shamrock, Ken Shamrock, and Scott Coker. The man is a draw, but it’s not because of talent, it’s because of a fond rememberance that people have of the dude from days past. Frank Shamrock is the epitome of Strikeforce’s business model: don’t worry about compelling fights that make sense, or trying to shake up rankings, just make a bunch of wacky fights that people will tune in to see.
