I attended Wild Bill's Fight Night 23 on Friday, it started off as a really great night. I got to hang out and take pictures of Wanderlei Silva. Sliva is a really funny guy and I will never forget the time I had standing next to the former Pride Middleweight Champion. On the card Wild Bill's is wrapping up their 185 and 170 tournament, also Georgia favorite Diego Saraiva. Some good fight on the card so lets jump right in with the undercard. And what would a card without controversy be? Interesting things happened Friday in Duluth, Georgia you can read them all here.
Tony Ritter vs. Winthorpe Burke Ritter via Triangle Choke R2
Ritter outpointed Burke throughout the fight, in the first round Ritter was very close to finishing the fight with the triangle. Eventually finished what he started in the second.
Alex Goebel vs. Travis Lord Lord via TKO R2
Both guys come out throwing bombs! Lord puts Goebel up against the fence and lands some knees. In the second, again they both start throwing bombs. Lord backs up Goebel and eventually finishes him.
Sean Fajay vs. Michael Kimbrell Kimbrell via Guillotine Choke R1
Not much of a fight, it lasted like 30 seconds. Moving on...
Will Bolt vs. Kevin Belden Bolt via inverted triangle R2In the first round Belden looks much more comfortable on the feet than Bolt. Few strikes from Belden land, Bolt is looking for a spot to shoot on Belden. Bolt pulls guard and quickly reverses Belden almost catching Belden in an armbar. Round two Bolt gets a takedown and works an inverted triangle.
Andre Allen vs. Ryan Davidson Allen via TKO R1
Allen comes out swinging and does not stop until the referee pulls him off.
Paulo Brattenfjeal vs. Clydell Johnson Brattenfjeal wins via unanimous decision
The whole fight is fought entirely on the feet and both fighters are keeping their distance landing numerous strikes on one another. Brattenfjeal is clearly the aggressor pushing the pace throughout the fight. Brattenfjeal is landing leg kicks at will. The fight ends with Brattenfjeal getting a clear edge due to aggression and pushing the pace of the fight. Great Fight!
Maryellen Cano vs. Brittany Watson Cano wins via unanimous decision
Throughout the fight Cano is obviously better at every facet of the game. In the first round Cano picks apart Watson on the feet. In the Second cano almost catches Watson in a Kimura. And in the third Cano again flexes her stand up. Watson shows great heart by withstanding all Cano threw at her.
Chris Calhoun vs. Joe Heink Calhoun wins via TKO R3
In the first round Calhoun comes on strong and looks to finish Heink early. Heink weathers the early storm, but in the second round Calhoun takes him down and starts elbowing Henik. While the elbows are raining down, Henik starts throwing up triangles. In the third it is the same as the second, referee stops the action and has the doctor take a look at the cut Heink has. Doctor stops the fight in the third.
Ronnie Rogers vs. Lawson McClure McClure wins via unanimous decision
Both fighters coming out and exchange powerful shots, McClure gets dropped by a Rogers right hand. McClure gets controlled on the ground for the rest of the round. In the second both fighters are again swinging for the fences for the whole round. Close round. McClure immediately takes the fight to the ground and working submission attempts for the whole round but never taps Rogers. Close fight, I gave it to Rogers.
Brett Chism vs. Johnny Buck Chism wins via Disqualification R2
Ready for some controversy? In the first round the fighters were feeling each other out. I gave Buck the first round due to cleaner shots landed. So in the second, the fighters are clinching against the ropes and an accidental headbutt occurs. Buck is bleeding, doctors say the cut is not bad enough to stop the fight. Buck shoots for the takedown and drives Chism through the ropes! they end up on the announcers table, Buck continues to punch Chism. The referee is trying to separate them and eventually does. After what seems like 30 minutes of discussion the bout is officially called.
Massimo Capussela vs. Joe Merit Merit wins via TKO R1
Another fight where both guys are trying to knockout each other. Merit lands a clean shot and swarms Capussela for the finish.
Tom Nguyen vs. Seth Baczynski Baczynski wins via Gulliotine R2
The pace of the fight is slow, it picks up when Nguyen takes Baczynski down and throws some strikes. Late in the round Nguyen goes for a leg lock and cannot finish. In the second Nguyen again takes Baczynski down and work a leg lock once again. And once again he can not finish. Nguyen shoots for a takedown and Baczynski grabs a Gulliotine and finishes to the fight.
Diego Saravia vs. JJ Mix Saravia wins via Split Decision
Mix is catching Saravia on the feet, Saravia decides it is time to take the fight to the floor. But Mix stuffs all of Saravia's takedowns. Mix clearly wins the round. In the second round Saravia comes out with aggression, landing powerful leg kicks. Mix is being controlled throughout the ring. Saravia tries to take down Mix once again and again Mix denies him. In the third Saravia continues his brutal assault on Mix's legs. Saravia finally completes a takedown and eventually gets mount. The end of the round is coming and Saravia is trying to secure a rear naked choke but can not complete it. All around great event. I had a lot of fun.
