Takanori Gomi Visits AKA And Plans To Meet With UFC/Strikeforce

Takanori Gomi joined training practice with the fight team at American Kickboxing Academy on Tuesday in San Jose, Calif., Sherdog.com has learned.

Bob Cook, one of AKA’s head trainers, said the Japanese striker "mostly grappled" with UFC welterweight contender Jon Fitch, Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson, Justin Wilcox, as well as with middleweight Trevor Prangley and UFC heavyweight Cain Velasquez.

Gomi wrote on his blog a few days ago that he wanted to come to America to fight. Gomi has negotiated with the UFC in the past, but the two parties could never come to terms on a deal. Gomi hasn't looked like the same fighter that used to destroy opponents back in his PRIDE days lately. However, he has managed to put together back to back wins and now looks to build on that here in America. If he could get with a good camp like AKA or ATT, he might be able to regain a portion of his form. However, that remains to be seen.

gomi had a fight with nick diaz and he lost but then diaz was caught by testing that he used marijuana?

did they declare that a loss for diaz or a no contest for gomi?

mary jane is a depressant. nick diaz is still a the real bad azz of mma. not a fake one like phil baroni.

baroni is the east coast bad ass

while nick is the west coast bad ass. How strikeforce didn’t promote this match up is beyond me

The thinking by the NSAC was

there was so much THC in Diaz’s system that it dulled the pain, and gave him an unfair advantage in resisting submissions.

I have no idea if there’s any truth to that, but that was the NSAC’s finding and how they justified having THC as a “performance enhancing” drug.

get some stateside training. Training in the west is supeior in the east. Tho as the Brits showed at ufc 105 they are doing much better

he could have made more money back when he was hot/hid the fact that BJ Penn stomped him into the ground….as of late, meh. hardly excited. he used to be everyone’s top guy in the LW class back when he was on top…..
