Sin City Fight Club: Redline Round 2 Thoughts and Results

Promoted To FrontPage From Fanposts By Kelvin Hunt

MMA4Real Reader EVeezy attended the Sin City Fight Club Redline Rd. 2 event for www.mmaforreal.com this weekend and below is a play by play of how the event shook out with complete results.  Thanks EVeezy.

The fights were held at Center Stage in Atlanta. The event was sold out 1,100 people came to see the event. When I arrived two fighters, Cortez Coleman and Clint Hester that are competing in the tournament were talking and joking with one another. It was an interesting vibe, to be there and have possibly two future opponents talk to one another like best friends. I ventured down into the corridors where the fighters are pacing like wild animals in a zoo. Just like wild animals you can look into fighters eyes and see the desire to be freed from their cage. Before the fights, I got a chance to sit down with head referee Chris Mize. Mize has been around the game of Martial Arts for a while, he told me in the 1980's he trained Judo with Jean LeBell and in the 80's he also trained Japanese Jiu-Jitsu in California. Mize told me that he has trained with many great trainers today such as Erik Paulson and Greg Nelson. Mize has been apart of every aspect of MMA he has been a fighter, promoter, trainer and manager. Mize has been a referee at over 200 fights in the state of Georgia alone. Center Stage was very loud, it had an eerie old Brazilian-like team vs. team atmosphere with most fans cheering for either the X3 Sport camp or the ATT Atlanta camp.

Star-divide

Steele McCall vs. Heat Reep: McCall via Armbar Rd1

it was a fun back and forth grappling battle while it lasted. McCall used a Kimura to sweep into side control and finished Reep off with a armbar.

Mike Alvarado vs. Dustin McCown: McCown via Rear Naked Choke Rd3

Both fighters looked a little timid, McCown was using his jab well to set up his takedowns and eventually Alvarado wore down and McCown sunk in the RNC.

Chris McNally vs. Jeremy Wallace: McNally via Unanimous Decision

This fight was a fun scrap, at the end of round one McNally was working a kimura and was very close to ending the fight but Wallace showed great heart. That is pretty much how the fight went. Wallace would land a over hand right, but never could stop the takedowns of McNally.

Cale Yarborough vs. Bernard Rutherford: Yarborough via Guillotine Rd2

Yarborough landed some good knees in the clinch throughout the fight. Rutherford was slaming Yarborough to the mat but Yarborough weathered the storm and locked in the Guillotine choke.

Chase Minor vs. Ethan Garrison: Garrison via Rear Naked Choke Rd1

Easy win for Garrison, I have a hunch he will be taking a major step up in competition in his next fight.

Cortez Coleman vs George Lockhart: Coleman via Unanimous Decision

Both fighter cam out with explosive hands, Lockhart controled Coleman against the cage for most of the first round. In the second Coleman really came out as the aggressor, displaying his hands and ground and pound ability. The third round was great! Both fighters left all they had in the cage. Both fighters were striking effectively. The fight was stopped due to an unintentional eye poke. And after that Lockhart could not seem to recover. Coleman used his ground and pound to win the third round and the fight.

Clint Hester vs. Douglas Lima: Lima via Unanimous Decision

Both fighters come out and are going toe to toe. Hester is going for the knock out and is throwing wildly, while Lima is throwing kicks and trying to put Hester into the Muay Thai clinch. In round two the crowd is going insane. Lima is being far more active than Hester, Lima is putting on a grappling clinic. round ends with Lima trying to lock on a armbar. In three it is much of the same, Lima just flexing his grappling game controlling Hester on the mat.

Yeah!

I had acess to anywhere I wanted, I could interview bascily anyone I wanted. I got to talk to everyone from fighters to managers such as Marc Fiore. I got a coulpe of side stories by attending this event, like doing an interview with Ururahy Rodrigues. If you don’t remeber my story you can read it here I got to talk about everything with him including his suspension he received from the GSAC. As well as a few other stories. I can’t thank you enough for letting me attend and cover this event Kelvin. Thank you so much for for front paging my stories.

p.s. Lima broke his hand in his fight with Hester, but it will not effect his fight for the finals. The doctor said it was a minor break and it would heal properly in two weeks. Also Brian Stann was there as well as all three Assoncao brothers.
