Dana White Talks Fedor And Says Strikeforce Ratings On CBS Are Disappointing

UFC President Dana White

From LA Times:

Yet, Dana White, president of UFC, called the Strikeforce's overall ratings Saturday a disappointment."CBS would be out of their mind to put that rinky-dink [Strikeforce] . . . on the air again . . . and without that backing, [promoters] won't have the money to pay [Emelianenko]."

He also trashes Fedor Emelianenko:

"The guy just got his face smashed in by Brett Rogers. Do you know what Brock or [UFC heavyweights] Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez would do to Brett Rogers?" White said. "It's time to bring this guy [Fedor] in, to see Brock Lesnar smash his head."

Also, apparently the injuries suffered by Fedor Emelianenko will keep him out of action for 4-6 months.  That sucks, because it would have really been dope if they could have built off of that momentum that Fedor gained on Saturday night.  The final ratings(including the main event are in) and the average is just over 4 million viewers with the totals peaking at 5.46 million viewers during the Emelianenko/Rogers fight.

What do you think about White's assessment of Rogers getting smashed by Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez after his performance against Fedor?

Rogers would get smashed by Mir? WHAT?! He might very well get beat, but smashed? I’m sure he wouldn’t fair well against Brock and probably not Cain either….heck, Carwin would probably be a bit much for Brett but I think Rogers would beat Mir

lol, well Mir would probably win…but I doubt he’d smash him…lol

they even hate mir as an announcer for wec events

i found myself in the small minority of people who thinks he does a good job of play by play announcing. it might have to do with his arrogance. lol. not only would brock destroy rogers he would destroy fedor and a broken nose would be the least of his problems. i would consider it his retirement party.

As a color commentator...

…Mir is one hell of a fighter.

He’s definitely best seen and not heard. Just like the UFC ringcard girls.

As for Dana’s comments, that’s just Dana being Dana. “MMA that is not UFC?!??! IS BAD!!! IS BAD!!!!!” He’d be getting down on both knees and metaphorically fellating Mr. Emelianenko if he had the right logo on his gloves.

And as for his assessment of Brett Rogers as to how he would do against UFC fighters? I think he’d hold his own for sure. Mir would be a tough fight and I think we saw glimpses that The Grim might not be helpless on the mat. If that fight stayed standing up, I think Rogers wins it. Velasquez-Rogers would be a great fight, I think. I’m still not sold that Cain is the next big thing in the heavyweight division. He’s got some athletic ability and power, sure. I’m just not that convinced he’s fought anyone all that spectacular yet. I think Rogers is better than anyone Cain has fought thus far in his career. As for the fight with Brock….well, that’s another story. He’d have to hope for the haymaker early, or he’d be eating a hearty meal of hammerfists.

Of course, you can’t tell Dana any of this without him saying they’re shit because they’re not in the UFC. He’s the epitome of a company man, through and through.

Yes! Yes! In the face!

I don't hate him

However, he’s quickly approaching Tito Ortiz and Matt Hughes status for me….basically meaning…anytime they get that ass whipped….it’s a good night.

Fedor comments.

Fedor didn’t get smashed. Thats ridiculous. Besides part of Fedor being Fedor is that he has been able to pull through everytime he was hurt. Don’t bash the guy because he got alil bloody in a fight, give him props for showing that there is not quit in the man. . .win or lose.

IMO the fight wouldn’t have been nearly as dramatic if that first jab didn’t cut Fedor and break his nose, and cause alot of bleeding. Like I said he showed an iron will in just being able to breathe and continue to fight with his nose in such condition. Other that that big jab he prolly hit him with no more than 5 solid shots.

There are prolly 5-7 guys in the world with a chance to beat Fedor, 2-3 with a good shot. I mean even if Brock or someone did beat Fedor. Would that atoumatically mean that Brock is better? Or simply a fight and anything can happen? all that being said I’m a fedor nuthugger til the end. Even when he loses I will still consider him the greatest of all time. Like Fedor said, “the fact that I haven’t lost is only for the moment.”

Really?

Dana puts down Strikeforce and Fedor while talking up his fighters? Shock…huh.
It’s what he does. He’s a promoter.

That “rinky dink” show was great…and FREE. He’s just cranky b/c he doesn’t have all the toys.

To answer your question, Kelvin, no I don’t think Rogers would get “smashed” by Mir or Cain. Mir might pull a sub and Cain might be able to control him somewhat but I could also see a KO by Rogers for either opponent. I’d say he would go 1-1 against those two.

Fedor handled himself well in his first cage fight and it was against a super heavyweight too.

Agree

Agree 100%. I think Fedor will defeat Werdum, but let’s say how he does in the cage again. From what I hear, he does prepare for the cage. I think the Rogers fight gave him some food for thought and I hope the Werdum fight will as well.

I am still hoping to see Fedor in UFC. I don’t think he would have a run like Anderson Silva, but I think he still can become a champion and defend his belt a couple of times. From what Fedor says, I do get a feeling that he would like to fight in UFC.

Also, you guys might not have the access to the Russian media like I do, but there is A LOT of criticism of Fedor, even on his official web site and the site of M1.

The Russian fans want to see Fedor fight in the UFC and the M1 officials as well as the most visible MMA commentator in Russia actually had to write articles defending Fedor’s decision not to accept the UFC contract.

sure

Everyone in Russia (not just Russia, all of the former Soviet Republics) know UFC.
If I had to sum up the feelings of most of the Russian MMA fans, it would be that if Fedor doesn’t go to UFC, he should just retire. Also, they are really, really pissed of at Filkenstein.

Also, UFC in the Russian language is just UFC, it’s not translated into Russian. It really became synonymous with MMA.

Also, Randy Couture, is extremely famous in Russia. Also, do you remember when Fedor fought Lindland in St. Petersburg? Anyway, it was funny to see all the comments on the Russian web sites (including the M1 official site) of the fans seeking out Sokodjou and Henderson (who were cornering Lindland) and textmessaging and e-mailing each telling each other where they can find Sokodjou and Henderson and get his autograph.
