Gegard Mousasi vs. Sokoudjou at Strikeforce's November 7th Event
According to Sherdog:
Gegard Mousasi and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou have agreed to meet in a light heavyweight non-title bout at Strikeforce "Fedor vs. Rogers" on Nov. 7 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffmann Estates, Ill., Sherdog.com has confirmed through multiple sources.
If approved by the Illinois Boxing Commission, the three-round bout will be one of four fights televised live on CBS during the promotion’s debut on the major broadcast network.
Interesting match up, but in many ways, Sokoudjou is the lone light heavyweight with a name out there, do they really want to give this fight away and especially have it be non-title? What do you think?

I have no clue why they would make it a non title.
Maybe they know that Sokou is going to get KO’d in the late 1st or 2nd round.
...some call me "el mexicutioner"...

On the other hand, Soko has done absolutely nothing to earn a shot at ANY title lol
Bloody hell.

Also
Soko and Mousasi were supposed to fight at DREAM 11 as part of the Super Hulk shit…so this could be a factor as well…

sokou was heavilly hyped by the ufc on his arrival to the octogan.......
then was kicked to the curb b/c he could not compete. mousasi knockout in two minutes just b/c he might want to entertain a tv audience a little bit.

I disagree. To me, he’s just a dude who had a few good fights right out of the gate, but since then has shown little. Since he debuted in the UFC all he’s done is lose to anyone worth half their pay, and beat people that aren’t that great. Machida, Cane and Sobral are all good oponents for sure, but at the same time Nakamura Nortje and Sapp are collectively pretty awful. Realisitically speaking the guy hasn’t had a quality win since 2007 (although the Nakamura win is debatable), and only has two wins over cans (plus a leg injury TKO).
Granted, I don’t think that there’s a ton of light heavyweight talent available outside of the UFC, but Sokoudjou as a title contender? I don’t think so. Mousasi submits him in the 1st, if he doesn’t get a ground and pound TKO.

didn’t really say he was the best out there, I just said he’s one of the few with name value

That’s what I mean. It’s not like Matt Hughes where he was dominant for years then faltered around top competition, it’s more like a Houston Alexander thing where he murdered a few dudes then was proven to be a dud.

I’m pretty sure he’s always fought at light heavyweight… although like Kelvin said he isn’t very competitive.

For Those Bashing Soko
Oh how we forget:
He beat Arona and Lil Nog.
Lost in the UFC to Luis Cane and gave Machida one of his toughest fights in the UFC. His other loss was to Babalu.
Total bum huh? He was competitive against Machida but won’t be against Mousasi?
=)

come on now!
nobody is bashing…he wasn’t really competitive with Machida…he was the first dude Machida finished in the UFC though…plus those wins in PRIDE didn’t last long enough to prove anything…however, we’ve learned since that he has absolutely no ground game even though he has a background in judo

This is typical Supremacy. Always trying to put a positive spin on non-Zuffa related stuff.

The Win/Loss column isn’t the be all and end all method of scouting a fighter – true he did knock Lil Nog and Arona out, a KO early in the first can be a little sketchy and sometimes what it tells us is: the guy has knockout power. Sometimes that’s it.
The conclusions I’m drawing from watching him fight and looking at his records are:
- If he doesn’t get it done within 3 minutes he basically won’t at all
- He is helpless off his back; not much in the way of BJJ or even the ability to scramble and get back up
So yeah I still think this is an absolute mismatch
Bloody hell.

Does that mean that Houston Alexander is still a legit fighter too? No. He beat a few big names early on in his career and hasn’t done anything since. He may not be losing to scrubs, but a win over Nortje and Sapp? Who cares.

Sok might benefit from change in scenery. He really needs to get with a camp that is going, at best, utilize his tools. He also needs stop taking fights that sets him back like Sapp. He’s a 2nd degree black in judo and he rarely has shown any of it in his brief career.

Yo
I’ve seen him execute his judo once in MMA.

!["It's going to take a lot of time," he said. "I have to take it step by step. I cannot put so many pounds on in a short time. First, I will be a small heavyweight, and slowly I want to put more pounds on. It will take two, three years before I'm a solid heavyweight."
"They wanted me to sign for six fights," Mousasi said of the original deal. "I didn't want that. They didn't pay me that much. But money will come. I want to grow with Strikeforce as they grow with Showtime and CBS. I think it's a good place to be.
"If I had it in my mind, like OK, I'm going to the UFC, then I would have gone. But I have a new contract with DREAM, so I'm planning to stay busy and fight in Strikeforce and Japan constantly."
"I don't want to fight for too long," he said. "(At) 30, I'm finished. In my mind, (I just want) the amount of money that [would give me] a good life. Anymore than that, I don't need.
