Josh Koscheck Really Wants To Retire Matt Hughes

From Koscheck's Twitter page:

Wow Matt Hughes come get ur free paycheck! More like his retirement check

Well, it looks like the AKA guys are still after the future UFC Hall of Famer.  However, it looks like Matt Hughes isn't interested in fighting anybody really according to a recent interview at heavy.com:

As far as who I fight next? You know, looking at these younger kids who are wanting to come in and be the next world champion or be the next contender, I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't know if I'll take on those guys.  There are plenty of older guys out there with big names who can fight, too. I like to take fights where I've got something to win. If I take a fight against Mike Swick or Josh Kosheck, I've really got nothing to gain from that fight besides a paycheck and beating somebody up. They've got more to win than I do. Those aren't the kinds of fights that interest me.

Royce Gracie was a big fight, you know? It was a huge name, a guy that had won the old tournaments in the beginning. Those are the fights I like, the ones I can really get revved up for and get motivated. Those are the kinds of fights that gets me into the gym ready to train and work.

Does Hughes not understand that he's basically in the same position that Royce Gracie was in against him at UFC 60?  Granted, Hughes probably made more money from that fight than he would against any of the guys from AKA or Paul Daley who has started mentioning Hughes as well.  But to simply dismiss these guys like they are nobodies like there are other more interesting opponents for him in the UFC welterweight division is borderline retarded.  I think the more they call him out, the more likely it is that we'll see him face one of them.  I mean who else is he going to fight that's a older/huge name...BJ Penn?

I’d rather see Hughes and Trigg.
Hughes can’t hang with the younger guys and will never make a run for the title again. I mean, he is just not in the title picture anymore – PERIOD!
These AKA morons just look stupid every time they call him out. It puts them on the level of Sylvia calling out Shamrock.

I feel you

BUT, Hughes beat Trigg decisively both times…just signed a new four fight deal….I mean who else is there for him to fight? He’s said in the interview I linked to that he doesn’t want to fight Trigg or Hallman…so who’s left? I do want/think the AKA guys should fight one another

My problem with Hughes is that he took advantage of a old Royce Gracie…but gets madd when some young guys want to do the same to him.

I kind of forgot, but what led to that Gracie Fight? I never understood what was good beating up guy who is past his prime and one dimessional?

Did Hughes wanted and ask for that fight or he took it because it was interesting money fight?

True about the Gracie fight. It was pointless and just a fight to get old school fans to buy PPV's

There are too many good match ups with the young guys (potential title contenders) in the division to waste any of them on fighting a past his prime Matt Hughes.

A rubber match, between him and Penn is actually more interesting than fighting the AKA guys.

But, anyway, I was kind of like why is Hughes avoiding AKA guys, but then again he really has nothing to gain in this situation, now that I think about it. Now the thing about Hughes is that he is not in the title picture as long as GSP is champ. There is nothing in those last two outings with GSP that will convince me or the UFC brass that Hughes will be competitive in 4th fight. I believe he knows that. He won’t have much success at Middleweight. He may be offered another shot at Silva that was reported, but he’ll get crushed.

I’ll be the first to tell you, I am not a Hughes fan and it would make my day to see him be Silva’s bitch, but unless the fight is “interesting” or in other words money, there is no reason for him to take a fight where he’ll be stepping stone and risk his legacy that he built up for years. He had a great run, but right now, he doesn’t need to end up like Ken Shamrock.

As for AKA, I’d like to see them stop calling out senior citizens, and look to someone like Anthony Johnson or Matt Brown
